Carl Carey, agent for Panthers soon-to-be unrestricted free agent defensive end Julius Peppers, released the following statement as team general manager Marty Hurney got set to meet with the media to announce the would not use the franchise tag on Peppers:

"We have felt for some time that Julius would have the opportunity to test the free agent market in 2010. He has had a very accomplished career thus far; but he is convinced that with this move he will thrive and develop fully into the player he was destined to become. He is excited about his future and looking forward to the process of selecting his next destination."

Same BS as last year. Fug you Carey and Peppers.

There that's what he really meant.

rubbish

I agree and its Fox/Hurney's fault for allowing the garbage to go on for so long. The light should have gone off when Pep didnt sign the long term deal after that horrible '07 season. If you look the bad '07 year started 1/2 way through '06. So this franchise treaded water and hung on to a guy that basically showed up enough to produce stats and audition for some other future team.

I always thought if he had just a little bit of Lawrence Taylor's meanstreak, he'd be unstoppable. I think he has counted on his athleticism so much that he thinks all he needs to do is give half effort and he is still better than the guy he's going against. The problem is, as he gets older and some of that athleticism goes away, he's going to be in trouble. He needs to be on a team that has a leader, a Ray Lewis type of guy, to keep after him. He never had that here.
