Considering Tepper knows who advocated for what…This tells me he had different ideas and can’t be held accountable for past decisions. Or at least Dan doesn’t think he can.

I mean, there is no way he would interview if he was a driving force for Ickey, Bryce, etc.

He must think he can go in and say, you guys screwed up, this is what I wanted, this is what we’ll do.

Morgan's role with the Panthers was expected to focus on pro-personnel since that's his background.

With that said, it doesn't matter so much what we think of decisions that he was part of as it does what Tepper thinks.

The fact was, we felt so strongly about the quarterback this year, right?" Fitterer said. "Like, even in our February meetings, where every scout had the same opinion on this guy. It never really changed. It just kind of held strong that way, right? That reinforced that we're doing the right thing."

Fitterer and the scouts thought a certain way in January. A new staff of coaches rolls in in February, and they initially think the same thing. The more they learned, the more sure they became.

I would put money on that there wasn't concensus on the draft until they announced that Frank gave his decision to Fitterer in their "5 second meeting" a week before the draft. The trade up to 1 changed everything about the draft plans going in. The pressure was on to make sure Frank's initial plan (whoever was at 3 it appears) was better than the concensus 1st overall Bryce Young.

I would also bet Frank knew if he went against management and his guy struggled he was toast anyway.  But little did he know that he was screwed no matter who he chose because this team is ass and ran by a buffoon.

sounds about right

The poo that was coming out of that front office since Feb was discombobulated, confusing and in general a clusterfug.  Not sure why they are making things this hard.   In a nutshell stop saying stupid poo like "not drafting in top 10 again" "point guard" "Every starting spot is better" "drop a qb in" "conviction" etc

Just shut the fug up and dont say poo that will make you look stupid down the road

So I suggested elsewhere that rather than be GM, Morgan could be a good person for the role Joe Person has talked about, i.e. an ego handler and a go-between for Tepper and team personnel.

I'm probably more comfortable with that idea.

Per Mike Lombardi on GM Shuffle yesterday - “I don’t know where this all goes…I was told Dan Morgan - perhaps he’s really kind of endeared himself to Tepper’s wife.”

Carolina discussion starts at 43:36 mark.

I hope he is truly considered as a serious candidate. He has been in a position to see the mistakes made, he also has been with a winning organization.

I’ve been staunchly against retaining any member of this front office. You can’t have this many catastrophic whiffs with each personnel decision. That’s just my opinion. Hurney/Gettleman still had hits with guys like Beane around. This front office hasn’t even produced a single or walk. Maybe I’m wrong about Dan but it would be hard for me to stomach someone that helped put this team together calling the final shots that Tepper would allow.

I just want to know if there was anyone else in the building that advocated for Bryce over CJ and Mingo over Dell, Downs, etc.

Does it matter at this point? They are all gone except Dave and Nicole. They go with whoever Fitterer told them to or vice-versa.  If you watch the draft videos it sure looked like Fitterer had a lot of say in what went down. Dave and Nicole was just happy to be there. It appears to be a group cluster f*ck when you step back and look at all the parts and pieces at play in this mess.

I wouldn't choose him, but at this point, can it get worse? Or could it just keep going like it has been until we are the new version of the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns and Arizona/St.Lous/Chicago/Boston Cardinals.

Sad days, indeed. Looks like the rain won't let up for a while.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
