Yeah I heard someone saying that he might pull a Ben J and just return to Houston.  That or he's just focusing on the task at hand.

He'd be smart to return IMO.  There is risk but the Texans offense has so much potential to be even better next year that his stock could skyrocket.  Right now I bet he wouldn't get the deal Ben Johnson likely will get.  But with another year under his belt, he could.  And 2nd year CJ Stroud is something I'm willing to bet on as an OC.

For me, I have three tiers and would be happy with any of the candidates. I'd prefer Tier 1, but I am not getting my hopes up. I want the next hire to have three things....

1 - A plan for Bryce. He doesn't have to be specifically brought in as a "Bryce Whisperer", but Young is our franchise QB and has untapped talent that was not

2 - A common vision/alignment with our new GM to build the culture and personnel the right way. I don't care if they are OC or DC, just get this team back on track from top to bottom.

3 - Who is he bringing with him? This can be everything from coordinators to potential players and connections around the league. For example, would having Callahan be the connection that decides on where Higgins goes in FA? Could we land Jamo Williams with BJ's tie to Detroit? The players matter less, but it definitely helps a francise with poor optics around the league right now.

The Big 3 who I want first and foremost. A clear separation from the other candidates:

  • Harbaugh
  • Johnson
  • Vrabel

The Young Coordinators that are all lumped together for me for differing reasons. Each are ready but could see differing levels of success/failure once they are the man running the show and not strictly calling plays. I really don't think either is necesarily "better" than the other.

  • Evero
  • Slowik
  • Smith
  • Canales
  • MacDonald
  • Monken
  • Callahan

The more "veteran" HCs with experience calling the shots and with SB experience. Both of their last stints didn't end well, but time has passed and shouldn't be held to that forever:

  • Morris
  • Quinn

Any GM / HC that doesn't start the interview with "we have to move on from Bryce Young" should be escorted out of the building.

I need like 8 more interviews lol

Tabor, Evero, Monken, Macdonald, Smith, Morris, Quinn so far. Callahan/Canales tomorrow and Johnson on Friday.

GM interviews that have been confirmed so far I think are Kelly, Halaby, Morgan, Samir, Dodds, Harley, Matteo, Tilis. I think the only ones left for round 1 are Disner, Brown and Greenberg unless those are already done and didn’t make it to the beat reporters.

Not a bad group for HC are there names I wish were there? Yeah… but looking at the list from last time around …

GM is dealers choice tbh.

One interesting snippet from the Graziano piece is that we want to get our head coach in place before the GM. I’m just not sure I understand the purpose in conducting all these GM interviews if that’s the case.

Might be what we want but I'm not so sure the timeline is cooperating, especially if we're hoping for Ben Johnson.

I realize some don't love it but I have zero issue with hiring the HC before the GM. Get two men on the same page with each other and let's start building this thing. I just don't understand the need to interview all these GM candidates if we want the HC first. Zero reason to rush this, could spend all the time focusing on the HC right now and then find the GM while letting the HC be a part of that process.

Only thing I can think of is maybe while doing HC interviews we've gotten some intel from these candidates regarding the GM's they'd like to work with. That way we can knock some of the interviews out now and expedite the hiring process as soon as the HC is in the building.

Brown from the NYG interviewed very early on. I don’t think it was reported. I think Disner and Greenberg have either already interviewed or are getting wrapped up today/tomorrow. Interview process is moving into phase II.

Person recently posted an article on the athletic about various coaches and the process and what not, anyone have cliff notes?

There wasn’t much we don’t already know in there. He was basically just saying who we’ve interviewed and reiterated that we want Johnson. But I don’t think anyone has a clue what the pecking order is after him.

Honestly a rehash and nothing you don't already know. Literally the only thing that was of note was that apparently Brown (GM candidate from NYG) interviewed last weekend. Everything else was just boilerplate stuff you've seen elsewhere.

Excerpt regarding the GM / coaching search:

The Carolina Panthers are two weeks into their double-barreled search for a head coach and general manager.

Owner David Tepper, with an assist from the consulting group Sportsology, has conducted virtual interviews with more than half of the 12 known candidates for the coaching position, including a pair of defensive coordinators Wednesday — Dan Quinn and Raheem Morris.

It’s less clear where things stand on the GM search because the Panthers have not been posting updates when they complete interviews with GM candidates — as they and seemingly every other NFL team have done after meetings with head coach candidates. So there’s been a slower trickle of news on the GM side, although The Athletic reported last week that Philadelphia Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby had interviewed and confirmed that Las Vegas Raiders interim GM Champ Kelly also had been in. Additionally, New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown interviewed last weekend, according to a league source.
