In the last 24 hours, reports that Sirianni could be gone with an L, Tomlin could take a hiatus after this season, and obviously some have speculated about McCarthy’s safety if the Cowboys flop in the playoffs.

Any of these coming open would be brutal for us. Multiple coming open would especially sting.

McCarthy might not be too bad as it would put him on the market for the Panthers.

The standards are hilarious for these franchises compared to ours.

17 straight winning seasons and a Super Bowl win? Get rid of him.

Greatest coach of all-time with 6 Super Bowls?  Time to move on.

Playoffs every year?  Not good enough.

Just won a MNC?  Under-qualified for Charlotte.

Panthers?  Those are all re-treads, let’s grab that hotshot Memphis Coach or the guy that got fired in Indy. Perfect.

I like two Raven Coordinators, but for the record, if I owned Panthers I would be all over Harbaugh, Belicheck or Vrabel, I think either one of those guys would at least take us in the right direction.

Thinking on it some more, something about Macdonald seems right to me.

He coached the first defense in NFL history to win the defensive triple crown (point per game, sacks & takeaways).  First in overall defense DVOA.  Was at UGA for a few years to start his career.  Has grinded in Baltimore for 7 years (with a successful detour for Jim at Michigan) Has both Harbaughs and a lot of the NFL thinking super highly of him.

The dude also just commands that locker room.  Seeing what Kyle Hamilton, Roquan, Queen, & Madubuike, have spoke to, he sounds like an excellent candidate.

Also re: BAL - last cycle Breer reported we wanted to interview Matteo and were declined.  We requested this time around and got an interview.

Matteo & Macdonald could be a strong package.

Macdonald is slowly becoming one of my favorite candidates. It's between him and Slowik for me, assuming Ben Johnson heads to Washington and we don't show interest in Vrabel.

I wonder if Slowik will pull a Ben Johnson and stay another year. Since it is his first year being the play caller.

Gronk said NFL Fox pregame that Atlanta is coming after Belichick HOT but if McCarthy gets canned I can see Jerry and Arthur duking it out.

Funny because just reported on NBC by Mike Florio the Falcons want Raheem Morris.

Gotta love all these insiders with different reports.

I know our spot isn't great, but we seem to be lucking out and might fall forward into a good coach. The candidates like Slowik, MacDonald, Monken, and Canales might not be the super hot names (Slowik will be hotter after this weekend) but other teams seem to have their eyes set on different targets. LA (Harbaugh), Washington (Johnson), LV (Pierce), NE (Mayo), Seattle (Quinn/Vrabel), Atlanta (BB)....im not betting money that is how things go but it seems odd in general for a cycle with lots of openings.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
