Goodbye to Julius Peppers: Panthers to explain why

I will literally be shocked if he isn't in a Panthers uniform come 2010 season.

So you're saying someone has you rigged to an electric chair and when Peppers is not seen in a Panthers uniform when the 2010 season begins, they will flip the switch and impart an electric current across your body?

Sorry to hear.

He'll be a panther.

I want to hear exactly what Hurney says before I give a definite response about if he'll be here or not, I just believe he'll be in a Panthers uniform when it comes down to it.

Sorry, I thought that was a pretty definite statement. ;)

I'll agree that we know nothing. I just can't fathom that the Panthers future plans include Julius Peppers if they've neither tagged him nor tried to extend him an offer this season.

ehhh, I think he actually liked it here this year. I wouldn't be surprised if their whole hold-out thing was to force a franchise tag or maybe increase his value. you could tell he liked Meeks system and was actually enjoying playing here.

I will literally be shocked if he isn't in a Panthers uniform come 2010 season. There aren't many front offices who'd take a chance on him. Raiders have seymour, Redskins just embarrassed themselves with that Haynesworth contract and their pass rush is already stacked, and Dallas can't sign him because of the final 8 rule.

He'll be a panther.

He won't sign with a team that is desperate because that team would likely be a bad team. If he signs with ANYONE it'll be the Patriots, but they just tagged Wilfork so they're already paying a lot. I just don't see someone taking the chance on a big contract with the lockout looming.

Raiders, Redskins, or Atlanta. Atlanta is a very possible scenario.

Raiders, Redskins, or Atlanta. Atlanta is a very possible scenario.

Raiders: bad team, no chance of a ring before he retires

Redskins: bad team, and they already have a stacked pass rush and the highest paid defensive player in the league.

Atlanta: no comment, definitely a potential landing spot, but still.. he wants a giant contract the year before a potential lockout, teams will be very cautious before signing him.

$$$ goes a long way.

I like Peppers and I believe he is our best defensive player. I think it's a bad deal getting rid of him. I'm not going to blame the front office or Peppers. I think they both had a little bit to do with it culminating like this.

I will say that I believe our defense will suffer because of this situation. The talent on our defensive line has been in steady decline since Jenkins left and next year we will hit bottom.

Well, I'm not sure we got from Pep what we paid for last year. Not sure if it would have been worth it to tag him, end up keeping and playing him, then getting 10 sacks for $21 million.

Perhaps the front office just doesn't see him adding up to the big dollars any more. And they may have the best idea of his value of anyone around.

I personally think he is headed to Atlanta.

I also think the Panthers will match and maybe beat anything he would get from an outside team. But this is based on me believing no team is going to offer a ridiculous 'Haynesworth contract' especially with a 30 year old.

So it really comes down to whether Peppers genuinely wants to play somewhere else or stay here. Technically Peppers best chance for a super bowl IMO would be the falcons, a fresh QB, who can actually throw the ball and a great RB in case he doesn't feel like it. Plus he will of course play the Panthers twice a year which could satisfy any spite he may have to the fullest, and carries experience playing ALL the NFC south teams twice a year, for eight years. To me this would make the most sense if he doesn't stay.
