You and me both. Still can’t believe so many idiots said we couldn’t possibly replace Burns. We could have traded the 2nd for Sweat and had two firsts. Fitterer just completed fuged it up. Anyone could see that two firsts and pick 36 (could have used a 4th to trade up to Levis’ pick and taken La Porta) plus $25-30M to sign a Floyd/Reddick level edge and also a $10-12M OL like a healthy Corbett, could net us 5 starters.

A smart GM would have asked SF for their 2024 1st and 2nd and gotten 3 1sts and a 2nd for Burns and Moore and whatever else we could have gotten for Chinn and anyone not named Luvu/Brown so that we tank the rest of 2023. Young sucks but had we just used our single pick in the draft to get him, it wouldn’t hurt so bad. Instead we have no CMC, an unsigned Burns, no Moore, a Chinn with no value and we are minus big picks instead of having extra 1sts and 2nds.

D Brown must be given bank.  Moton's deal will count $30m vs the cap and he is 30 years old.  I would consider restructuring him, getting it down to about $15m over the next 5 years.

Burns?  If he wants what 15-16 sacks a year are getting, he will be disappointed here. I would pay him about $25m per season based on his potential/production.  He is very young.  Maybe some team that has 1 or 2 glaring needs will pay him, but we cannot.  He will be missed, however

We could have CMC and DJ Moore on this team right now and still have traded for Young. That is the sickening part. We lost a HoF type RB and that didn't have to happen to move up for Young. Don't trade CMC to SF, but do trade Burns to the Rams. Don't trade DJ to the Bears, offer other players. They would have taken a different deal. We were already offering a fantastic deal, and if the Bears don't want a player, then offer another future pick. Fitt DOES NOT know what he's doing.

The entire situation surrounding Burns has been poorly handled. There's no reason to decline the trade, and then drag feet to sign him. No way to undo that now. It should be pointed out that his 8 sacks did lead the team, and with only 30 sacks on the year, he was 27% of that number. Nothing on this team was right this year.

Just looking around the league, let's consider the true top tier pass rushers and DL.  Is Burns really comparable to any of these guys?  I just don't see it.

I mean we shouldn’t overpay but I would think we’d had enough of trading talent away on an already talent deprived team, find a financial fiscal way to keep burns if possible if not no choice but to seek a trade or let him walk, which in itself is a mistake too

This stalemate, Burns’ average performance and the team playing so poorly has definitely put us in a pickle. 

We’ll have to overpay to keep him but we lost value if we tag and trade (which may be hard to do in itself). 

I could legit see him just go elsewhere.

Complete mismanagement of the entire ordeal, if the rams trade was not going to be accepted than a contract should have already been agreed on with burns before declining the trade

It's amazing how many of us were called idiots for screaming that Fitts should have taken that deal and run and never looked back.
