Text of Marty's statement

"After due considerations we have decided not to "franchise" Julius Peppers and allow him to sign with another team if he wishes. Yes last year I moaned on and on about not letting quality players leave, but I also thought Obama's stimulus plan would work. Sure Peppers huge salary last year, ate up our cap room and cost us veteran players and made our special teams play re.., well lets just say Sarah Palin would be mad at me. So this year without a cap, we have decided not to spend another three million on Peppers and keep him on the team for the season. Sure we could have gotten picks last year for him, but this way we get nothing and we save postage on sending paperwork to the league office. Its a sad day for the Panther family, but owner Jerry Richardson wanted me to send a message to Julius; that he would always think of him as a son."
