WCNC reporting no tag for Peppers via team source

Last year everyone was circle jerking Hurney for getting Gross' contract done and tagging Peppers.

We had a bad year, and now he's an idiot. Something else will happen good, and he'll be a god again. This is ridiculous.

Anyways, best of luck to Julius Peppers, I'm sad to see him go, but sometimes its the team over a player. I'd rather have 5 solid or above average contributers than one good DE.

I am personally sick of people calling Hurney an idiot for this situation because, I mean, it isn't like they didn't offer him a long term contract, matter-of-fact, they were going to make him the HIGHEST PAID DE IN THE LEAGUE and yet he still wouldn't take it. Face it, Pep and his agent are greedy and he just isn't worth the money.

and to those who think we may get something for him, let me remind you that every team that you heard rumored that could possibly trade for him is just that, a rumor. We don't know exactly could be a potential trade partner and I don't even think there are any teams out there that would make that sort of risk. So what will happen if we tag him and there are no trade partners, are you going to continue calling Hurney an idiot?

So all I can say is, get over it, he will either be gone or he'll come to the realization that no team is going to offer him as much as we plan on offering.

Peppers...Jerry...Babineaux....Abraham

My dear god

and I'll raise ya, Gross..Vincent..Kalil..and Otah...

whats to be scared of, if you think we couldn't game plan against Pep, than your crazy. Hell, all we gotta do is put a tight end on him, and we're good.

It would be a damn shame to see Hoover or Stewart put Pep on his ass...

Little history for you people...and ones that continue to bring up the same FO bitchwhines...not saying they don't deserve it for other issues...but the Peppers situation? No. Can't say they did anything wrong.

Panthers FO offered Peppers a contract in 2007...he would've been made the HIGHEST PAID DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE NFL AT THAT TIME. Got that?

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8164fdda&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

After being held to a career-low 2.5 sacks in 2007, the Panthers still offered to make Peppers the NFL's highest-paid defensive player. Peppers on Tuesday provided conflicting reasons on why he rejected the contract.

"That deal was to make me the highest-paid defensive player, but slightly, very slightly," Peppers said. "I didn't really feel the sincerity behind that deal."

But later in the rambling answer during the radio interview, Peppers also indicated that he wasn't worthy of such a deal.

So got that? He turned down that contract. Fast forward to 2008 season. Peppers and FO try to work out a contract. Ain't happening...again. So the Panthers say ok...we'll just have to franchise him. They do, BUT...and he's the kicker...Peppers and his agent don't sign the franchise tender until the last minute. Got that? Know what that means?

That means the Panthers couldn't trade him. Period. No tender...no ownership...no ability to trade him. Peppers wanted HIS team to go to.

He became the prima donna in all this. Not only was a 2007 contract good enough. Not only was the 2008 contract good enough. Not only was the franchise tender good enough to just go ahead and sign and let the Panthers see what they could get for him and send him to a team. He wanted to pick the team.

I'm sorry...Julius Peppers does not deserve 1/6th of the salary cap to play 1 year. Explain exactly how this is the front office's fault. I'd rather keep people like Thomas Davis and others that seem to be team players understanding what it takes when a salary cap system is in place.

All of you need to remember that we WERE in negotiations with him after he signed the tag last season. The Panthers FO know exactly what Peppers and his agent were asking for and expecting....while none of us do.

With the decent season Peppers had, his asking price will NOT be less at this time.

If the price was too high then, this is the right decision to make.

Yes, it means he had to be on board with any trade destination. That is pretty much standard procedure for players of his stature.

I agree with you that the FO did about as much as they could working with Peppers, but the part above is normal. He certainly isn't going to let himself be shipped to some poo team like Detroit or St Louis when his real desire is to be Free Agent.

Would be hilarious if he went to St Louis....but I expect some team stupid like Oakland to pay him the kind of money he's asking.

Good luck to him though.
