Seems Richardson is prepping this team to sell it.

Weak sauce evidence.

Why would Richardson, at this point in his life, be more concerned about money, than the franchise that he fought to bring in to the NFL that he respects more than most fans.

Exactly....I could see Dan Snyder...owner of the Redskins...or that dickhead that owns that Dallas NBA team...wanting to sell to the 'highest bidder' because they still have youth....but JR has fought his entire adult life for his dream of owning an NFL team....just doesn't make any sense.

That is because it doesn't make sense.

I wouldn't be surprised that when he does sell the team there is a provision that the team remains in the Carolina's. After all part of his dream was not only to own a franchise but to bring one to the Carolina's.

Go Panthers

To a consortium led by Ric Flair, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Michael Jordan.

And Felix. Always Felix.

seeing as how Dale Jr's a Redskins fan, I highly doubt he would invest in a team that he doesnt really care for. Now maybe, Jimmie Johnson since he has all tha bank from 4 championships.

I agree this is horrible speculation. However...it does make me think of who is the heir apparent now the sons are out of the "family business" and Jerry ain't getting any younger...not to mention the recent heart transplant.

Does anyone know the answer in case, Lord forbid, an "emergency" situation would arise?

While I don't see this as evidence that JR is looking to sell the team this question did get me thinking a little.

Would it surprise anyone if JR willed the team to the PSL owners through a management by either the state of NC and/or SC or even the city of Charlotte? Ala the Greenbay Packers. Based on what we know about JR and his passion to bring a team to the Carolinas, this would make a lot of sense.

You know, guys, Mr. Richardson does have a wife. Who's to say that his % of the Panthers doesn't fall to her? Makes sense to me.

IMO right now he's prepping the team to lose as little money as possible in 2011 and to be in as good a position as possible when this whole CBA fiasco ends.

I will be interested to see how other teams react to the possible lockout. If teams like Dallas and Washington start reigning in the spending as well then I would be concerned that things are going to get ugly. If this is just a JR thing and other owners keep doing business as usual then it speaks to a Panthers issue and not a league wide phenomena.

I suspect it is a little of both. It signals that a CBA deal won't be an easy fix this time and there will be a lockout for at least part of 2011. In that case this is part of owners letting players know they are very serious. It probably also signals that Jerry recognizes he won't be here forever and he is getting his house in order from a leadership and financial point of view. He expects to come out of this in 2012 healthy and sound.

As for selling, look at St Louis, they didn't dump their coaches or high salary guys before the sale. This is just sound management not a precursor to a sale in my opinion. The Panthers are Richardson's legacy so I doubt he sells. If he dies he just wants things to be in the best shape possible. No one wants to die and leave things in a shambles.

He also has a daughter ... and grandchildren. And partners.

And, he thinks the world of Danny Morrison.
