Right now I want:

Tyler, Leonard, Johnson, Irvin,

I'll hang onto Kemo until we can really evaluate him. I want an upgrade from Lewis personally so I wouldn't mind letting him go. I'd keep Thomas on the line if he's interested in role playing next season should Kemo be gone.

when you consider what they're job descriptions are, lewis > kemo.

I call kemo one demensional but he's really not even that. He's supposed to be a 1-technique, but at best he clogs a lane and stands his ground. He never gets any pass rush or makes plays in the backfield. I can't remember which season it was but he forced a fumble in the backfield once, that's it.

He's 1/2 demensional.

Does anyone remember the reason they signed kemo? His beastly game against lecharles bentley, I watched that when we signed him and he's never look that good EVER.

Ranked based on where I think they will fall on the depth chart.

(1)Damione Lewis

I know he's not all that liked on this board but he is solid and has shown the ability to generate interior pressure. He also brings stability to a DT position that is full of uncertainties.

(2)Louis Leondard

Played well until he went down with injury. Also brings a much bigger/stronger body to a relatively undersized DT group.

(3)Tank Tyler

Spent a draft pick on him and played pretty well for being put into a different defense mid season.

(4)Ed Johnson

Former starter playing for his previous DC. Should provide good depth and also give ED a chance to get a fresh start.

(5)Corey Irvin

Inexpensive depth and potential to get better.

CUT (6)Nick Hayden

Also inexpensive, but will likely be a casualty if his play does not improve.

CUT (7)Maake Kemoeatu

Expensive and reports suggest his recovery is not going well. Likely cut either to save salary or once he isn't ready for camp.

Not Brought back (8)Hollis Thomas

Played very well and would be good to pick up in a pinch. However given the age and the players coming back there isn't need or room for him.

Cut(9)Derek Landri

Smaller DT who was picked up on the cheap to fill the void left at DT.

Let Hayden walk, bring everyone else into TC and let them fight over the starting/roster spots. Give HT a call and bring him back if there are injuries or several guys aren't working out.

Exactly. If I were Ron Meeks and Peppers walks, the first day of TC I would def let my D-Line players know the positions are up for grabs, and if you want to start, show me.

We definitely won't pick up Kemo's 9.3 million option but we could decide to keep him on the roster if he is healthy. At this point whether or not he even can play this year is still very much in doubt. But if he is back 100% he would be cheap making less than 2 million. If he is gone or not healthy then keeping Leonard, Lewis, Tyler, and Irvin would be the minimum. We have other guys like Johnson, Hayden and Landri who we can bring into camp and see what they have. Thomas will likely be out there if we need an injury replacement sometime down the road.

Please cut Hayden he is garbage. Maybe Hayden would be a better defensive end but please cut that P.O.S. I know we are going to keep Tank Tyler, Leonard, Lewis and if Kemo is healthy we should keep him and/or Thomas because we do need a nose tackle and having a good backup nose tackle would be awsome so when one gets injured or tired in a game we can just swich out. I say keep Irvin but on the practice squad. I dont know how good Landri is so I couldnt say keep him. Johnson might be kept but he might also be a future practice squad player. I am hyped to see Tank Tyler and Leornard play for us next season.

I do not like what I am hearing on the rehab front for Kemo. And, I know Thomas has alot of miles on his tires.

However, the other guys on the roster do not give us that Fat Guy that we need. During the first part of last season, we experimented with those small to moderate sized DT's....and we were gashed. It was not until we drug Thomas' butt off the streets did this defense start playing to its potential.

I know Meeks has used smaller guys in the past, but count me as one who still thinks we need a Thomas/Kemo type of guy in the middle.

the defense also didn't really understand meeks system until later in the year.

We wern't getting gashed because the guys we had were undersized, we were gashed because they flat out sucked. An undersized defense can work when the players understand the system and plays.

We don't need a fat guy, we need good players.

Yeah, I agree with you MH. I think we need a big NT in there to plug up against the run, occupy a couple blockers to free up the LBers. I'm hoping we can land Cody in the 2nd or either Kemo/Thomas can work out for another season.

Also, I think the whole Meeks liking undersized DLineman thing is a bit overstated. He used undersized players because that's who he had to work with. They built that line like that at least partially just because those were the best players they felt they could get.

Meeks looks like he does a very good job at working his scheme around what players he has. I think he'd do fine working a large dominant NT in there.
