I remember seeing this guy back in 2005 on Ellen I think promoting this video and had a feeling his 15 minutes of fame would linger a bit longer than most. Pretty sure since then he got sponsored and has become rather wealthy off this.

True, the story is he made a similar video on a much smaller budget, and got a lot of buzz. Then Stride paid for him to go all over the world and make this longer video as a promotion for them.

It was a big deal because it was seen as the first really big corporate sponsorship of an internet sensation. And it paid off huge.

On a related note, I just tried my first stick of Stride gum last week and spit it out after 3 minutes. Those commercials where they have to force people to spit out Stride because it lasts so long are B.S. The flavor was acrid and was gone in about two minutes. Stride Sucks!
