I've pointed this out last year. The Panthers are the ONLY team in the NFL to have their first round pick from 2002 through 2008 starting in 2009. And its not really even close. Its the 2nd and 3rd round picks that are questionable.

Opposite for the Bobcats. Not so good in the 1st round, but better in the 2nd round.

Now the Bobcats trades have been amazing, but the NFL is less about trades and more about drafting. That being said, can't wait for the Bobcats Playoffs this year!!

But in the same vein, one wrong move out of that 5 could destroy a whole team/season, there's a lot more margin for error with 45-53 guys.

One name, Delhomme. Bitch about mistakes from everyone else all you want but replace Delhomme with someone else who isn't completely incompetent and BAM, a playoff team is created.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the panthers are so bad. We are ONE and I repeat ONE replacement away from easily being a playoff team, even without another WR (which adding would do nothing but guarantee playoffs) EASILY. Granted it is the most important position and carries more weight than any position in BBall.

However it makes you think what kind of idiot it takes to let 1 person of 45 destroy a team, where as 1 of 5 doesn't sound so bad. Since the panthers have started they have done nothing expect improve the team as a general perspective.

What is going to really put the Panther in a hole is letting Delhomme start next season (no link yet). No single decision at the FO of the panthers in the past decade is going to hurt this team like Jake and his contract will.

Well every team has bad picks that don't work out in the later rounds. As I said before, we've gotten some pretty good players with a lot of potential past the 1st round.

Sherod Martin, Fiametta, Duke Robinson, Munnerlyn, Barnidge, Godfrey, Schwartz, Bernadeau, Kalil, Charles Johnson, Rosario, Richard Marshall, King.. all of those guys were taken past round 1 and are all good(a few are great) with a lot of potential.

There isn't a single team that drafts great players in every single round. I think the Panthers main problem is they don't necessarily draft for need every time. We should have picked up a project QB years ago after Delhommes injury, but we didn't, and it came back to bite us in the ass.

This is an interesting question. When looking at FO though, I think you have to remove the product on the field from the discussion as well as remove the unpredictable variables like the draft, trades and free agency. In other words, it isn't about who was acquired or how they played but rather the way in which the pick, trade or signing was used.

Looking at just the last two seasons, one could say that the Panthers have had good drafts, aquiring both Stewart and Otah. But as many have pointed out, could the picks have been used more wisely by just taking Otah in the 1st and one of the many good RB that came in the later rounds of that draft.

Same can be said of the Bobcats. While many of the trades have resulted in some good players coming in, they have given up draft picks as well. Not to mention the players going out are now wasted draft picks. By aquiring one player, the team basicly gave up two draft picks in some cases.

I think at the end of the day the Panthers have the better front office. However, it doesn't appear that they are getting any better and could be getting worse as time goes on. The Bobcats, while the weaker FO, is constantly improving; getting better season by season. So while I do think the Panthers are the better FO, I'd take the Bobcats for the future.
