Jstew= big plus

The big O= plus but only played in 11 games

Godfrey= plus Has done very well for a rookie translatting to FS. much room for improvement

Connor= push looked good but tore his ACL early

Barnidge = push

Nick Hayden= push, I havent seen him much but he has much to improve

The rests are pushes as well

I think your being alittle hard on a 6th round pick. Yea he's raw but he held his own the last two weeks. Let him get some extra pounds on him and he will be alot better at the run. At 292 Pep(282) is almost just as big as him.

Yeah, Peppers 90..... you do have to connect it since we used next year's first round pick. Of course, it looks like next year's 1st rd. pick would be later than last year's. It all depends on the players available.

At least our top picks are working out fine, much better than several years ago. I have to say Hurney and Fox are doing a pretty good job with judging talent for those pics..... to name a few:

Beason

Davis

Stewart

Dwill

Otah

It would be fun to look at some of the players drafted b4 these and see where they are...

The thing about this draft, you almost have to connect it to next years as well. Our top 3 picks have been studs, but the rest of them haven't progressed yet.

I think we did that before the 08 draft and it looked like as a team the guys we pick in the 1st and 3rd rouinds, usually are pretty good. And it seems like anybody we pick in the second turn out at best to be decent (IE Foster, Shelton, etc). That's why I was glad we didn't have a second last year.

Saw this coming but you'll notice i wasn't pointing out that the Panthers have a bad history for such a young franchise (it's actually damn good for an expansion team) and it's more than 4 actually. Was just saying Dynasty? That's just a lot premature

EDIT: we have 10 winning seasons.

Touche'

I was mostly exaggeratting when I said four, but I agree we have to win the Super Bowl before we can start the Dynasty talk. Before that even we have to win our first playoff game haha.

Since 2002, Fox and Hurney have done extermely well in the 1st round of the draft. 2nd and 3rd rounds has been okay, fit or miss which is to be expected. It's the later rounds that worry me. Aside from Hangartner, I can't really think of anyone from the 4th-7th round that has panned out. And although Jeff King is a starter and 4th rounded I don't really see him as a player that has proven himself. A lot is left to be desired at TE.

I will be suprised if Dan Connor works out here, for some reason we keep drafting 3-4 LBs to be our back-ups, like we are specifically drafting them to play special teams and never take a snap

we have davis, beason, diggs and anderson, these are the only guys i think really fit in our system

the rest are stocky guys with good instincts but marginal physical skills to play in a 4-3 as far as coverage and blitzing is concerned

I've always been confused by this

Dan Conner is 6'-2" and 231lbs...he is not a 3-4 LBer.

Here's how Fox and Hurney have done in the draft as members of the Panthers. Feel free to add in your own editorial comments.

2002

1st, Julius Peppers, still on the roster, a star, and a pretty obvious pick at the time

2nd, DeShaun Foster, gone, but gave us five pretty good years before we upgraded his ass off of the roster.

3rd, Will Witherspoon, a stud while he was here, starts for St. Louis right now

4th, Dante Wesley, has been on and off the roster, currently he's on and he's a good ST player.

5th, Randy Fasani, bad choice

5th, Kyle Johnson, worse choice

6th, Keith Heinrich, and you say the Panthers never draft Tight Ends...

7th, Pete Campion, not sure how long he stayed on the roster, but he never made a mark.

7th, Brad Franklin, another training camp casualty

2003

1st, Jordan Gross, still on the roster, and like Peppers, an all-pro this year.

2nd, Bruce Nelson, training camp casualty, who knew he had a degenerative hip disease though?

3rd, Mike Seidman, got some decent playing time for us, but never really did anything.

3rd, Ricky Manning, Jr., Donovan McNabb still sees this guy in his sleep and wakes up in a sweat. He was a great backup CB until the rules change

4th, Colin Branch, stuck around for a while, a decent special teams guy and part-time starter.

5th, Kindal Moorehead, got a lot of playing time while he was here as a backup. Currently starting for the Falcons

7th, Walter Young, training camp casualty

7th, Casey Moore, fan favorite, couldn't beat out Hoover though

2004

1st, Chris Gamble, another full time starter. Probably in the top ten CBs this year.

2nd, Keary Colbert, had a great rookie year, and sports the nicest smile you've ever seen after a dropped ball

3rd, Travelle Wharton, starting guard, a great pick

5th, Drew Carter, displayed flashes his second and third year, but ultimately another bust at WR

6th, Sean Tufts, didn't make the starting lineup but looked like he might be headed that way until an injury ended his career

7th, Michael Gaines, showed a little, but not enough. Currently second on the depth chart in Buffalo (I think)

2005

1st, Thomas Davis, drafted as a safety, finally coming into his own at LB. Owner of the best defensive quote ever.

2nd, Eric Shelton, the definition of bust.

3rd, Evan Mathis, never quite worked out but at least he cracked the starting lineup. Currently in Miami (I think)

3rd, Atiyyah Ellison, made the roster but never did anything

4th, Stefan LeFors, another busted QB pick

5th, Adam Seward, good special teams player and backup

5th, Geoff Hangartner, everyone's favorite lego-lineman (snap him in anywhere)

5th, Ben Emanuel, busted pick

6th, Jovan Haye, a DE who couldn't beat out Kindall Moorehead, he ended up busting in Cleveland and then became a star at DT in Tampa Bay

6th, Joe Berger, bust

2006

1st, DeAngelo Williams, you really have to ask?

2nd, Richard Marshall, great nickel back, and special teams ace

3rd, James Anderson, good backup, good special teams player

3rd, Rashad Butler, didn't work out, may still be on the roster in Houston.

4th, Nate Salley, backup safety and special teams player

5th, Jeff King, starting Tight End

7th, Will Montgomery, didn't manage to stick around longer than a year.

7th, Stanley McClover, another project that didn't work out.

2007

1st, Jon Beason, a second year all-pro

2nd, Dwayne Jarrett, if he ever learns to block like Moose we won't be able to afford him.

2nd, Ryan Kalil, Kalil the steal. Currently starting at center

3rd, Charles Johnson, will probably be the starting DE in another year or two

4th, Ryne Robinson, looked good until he was injured.

5th, Dante Rosario, ask Norv Turner for an opinion on this guy. Still developing too

5th, Tim Shaw, didn't work out

7th, C.J. Wilson, I'm not sure if he even made the practice squad

2008

1st, Jonathan Stewart, a great pick, will give us the league's best backfield tandem for years to come

1st, Jeff Otah, looking like a solid starter for the next 10 years

3rd, Charles Godfrey, looking like a solid starter for the next 10 years. Besides, Delhommey liked the pick, so you know it's good

3rd, Dan Connor, Books still out on him, because he's on IR. Probably will win the job from Diggs next year though

5th, Gary Barnidge, still an unknown

6th, Nick Hayden, promoted from the practice squad recently and did ok in game action. Still a project though

7th, Hilee Taylor, another project with promise

7th, Geoff Schwartz, the Dude. A project, but may be our right guard of the future.

7th, Mackenzy Bernadeau, another project, a potential lego lineman though.

So in sum, here are the picks:

1st - 8 picks, 8 starters, three are going to the pro bowl this year

2nd - 7 picks, 2 started or still start, two genuine busts and one was a partial bust

3rd - 11 picks, 4 started or still start, two busts

4th - 5 picks, no starters, one bust

5th - 11 picks, 3 started or still start, 4 busts

6th - 5 picks, no starters, three busts

7th - 11 picks, one's started games, five might be called busts

Regarding second day picks, it's actually kind of difficult for me to label any of them busts, but I did anyway. What do you really expect from a 7th round pick anyway? I think our second round picks could have been better, but on balance I have to say that our staff has done a pretty good job overall. I bet they stack up better than any other NCF South team easily, and it wouldn't surprise me if they were competitive throughout the NFL.

These guys are good. :)

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
