Peppers would have to give NE a discount...

Talking with club officials about free agency this week, the name that came up most was Julius Peppers. Everyone wants to know where the soon-to-be-ex-Carolina Panthers defensive end might land. The Patriots and Eagles are thought to be the most interested parties, but one league source I talked with thinks Peppers will be sorely disappointed if he believes New England intends to offer him top dollar.

"If he's going for the big money, Peppers never signs with the Patriots,'' the league source said. "If it's about winning and he's willing to take less to play in New England, maybe he ends up there. But he doesn't sound like the type who's willing to take the discount. And really, can you go to New England and know you're going to win these days? It's not the given it was maybe three or four years ago, when Randy Moss went there. It's been five years since they've won a Super Bowl.''

When Peppers hits free agency the team most likey to sign him and offer the biggest contract will be the Panthers. The Eagles and Falcons I think will be in the running but in the end, the Panthers will offer him the best deal.

this is what i believe.

no one is going to offer peppers remotely close to what he made last season.

in the end, he will be back in a panther's uniform.

who cares where he goes. the panthers should NOT offer him the 'best' deal. Just let him go...

imagine Peppers playing where he doesn't want to, for a lot less than he wants too. How many dud seasons until he stops being a bitch and gets over it? I'd say the better half of a four year deal.

He is a great player but he has absolutely NO value. teams who win super bowls/playoffs have 'value' players, players that obviously should be paid more but aren't, not super stars who are paid the most in the league.

They mean the Panthers will offer him the best deal, but one that they find agreeable. Basically, everyone is insinuating that every team will offer him a lot less than he wants but that the Panthers will offer slightly more.

No one except Dallas or Washington would offer him the giant contract he seems to think he deserves.

Dallas cannot sign him in free agency since they made it to the divisional round in playoffs, so Jerry Jones can't buy himself a ring like he desperately wants to.

Redskins theoretically CAN sign him, but their pass rush is always pretty damn stacked, and I highly doubt they'd get another player for that much when they already have the highest paid defensive player in the league on their team.

Other teams will likely show interest, maybe offer a contract, but I seriously doubt any will be more than the Panthers. Anyways, all of this is irrelevant as there is still a week left to tag players.

I know I'll get bashed for this, but does anyone else think the luster has worn off the Patriots? I know they're not washed up by any means, but I think they are a far cry from a few years back. Dare I say, with the addition of a few key elements, the Panthers could be as much of as SB contender as NE? Let's face it, our D was getting better by the game and the confidence Moore had and created in the team showed some potential. IMO, we do let 90 walk but he'll soon find out his best spot is right here in Carolina.
