Why trade a proven commodity for a 1st round pick?

Personally, I think 1st round draft picks are overrated. You can get quality in the 2nd and 3rd rounds at a huge discount compared to the 1st round.

Until the trades start rolling and the draft happens, there will be a lot of this baseless crap in the media. Guys sitting around at their desks with deadlines to meet will come up with this stuff just to have something to keep their paycheck rolling in.

It would make no sense to trade a guy who was a 1st round draft pick and is at the top of his game (okay, he might still get even better) for some nebulous late first round draft pick on some guy who might be a bust.

On top of that, have you noticed how our front office will trade draft picks for draft picks, or give picks in exchange for players they need, but not give good players for draft picks? Draft picks are gambles, and we're not exactly a gambling organization.
