My Trade Rant

First off I would like to say the Bobcats made to good trades yesterday in acquiring Theo Ratliff and Tyrus Thomas.

As of right now this is how the Roster Looks

Centers

1. Nazr Mohammed

2. Tyson Chandler

3. Theo Ratliff

4. DeSagana Diop

5. Alexis Ajinca

Power Forward

1. Boris Diaw

2. Tyrus Thomas

3. Derrick Brown

Small Forward

1. Gerald Wallace

2. Stephen Graham

Shooting Guard

1. Stephen Jackson

3. Gerald Henderson

Point Guard

1. Raymond Felton

2. D.J. Augustin

Now with this roster there is a good chance the Bobcats can go far into the post season however I believe they are overloaded at the Center Position now. Tyrus Thomas has size on him at the Power Forward position an could play Center if needed. If the Bobcats are really interested in winning now they should look into cutting Alexis Ajinca and DeSagana Diop, then take a look at Zydrunas Ilgauskas if he is indeed released by the Wizards. If he was signed that would leave the Bobcats with a dominate Center rotation. There has also been speculation that the Bobcats would be interested in Mike James if he is released by the Wizards. Well I say sign him and look at Larry Hughes [convert Hughes to a Small Forward] if he is released by the Kings. Sign Hughes [Who is injured right now], but will be back soon. In the mean time while Hughes is recovering from his fractured finger, let James log in some minutes at Small Forward and Henderson log in some minutes at Shooting Guard. Hughes has an expiring contract and could give us one good year in the Bobcats first playoff run.

This is my wishful Trade Rant Line Up for the Bobcats

Center

1. Zydrunas Ilgauskas

2. Nazr Mohammed

3. Tyson Chandler

4. Theo Ratliff

Power Forward

1. Boris Diaw

2. Tyrus Thomas

3. Derrick Brown

Small Forward

1. Gerald Wallace

2. Larry Hughes

3. Stephen Graham

Shooting Guard

1. Stephen Jackson

2. Gerald Henderson

3. Mike James

Point Guard

1. Raymond Felton

2. D.J. Augustin

Just wishful thinking, but the team above would be a real contender.

In my opinion, here are a few things we learned yesterday:

1. D.J. Augustin and Gerald Henderson are not in the plans for the future. As recently as yesterday, both were being used as trade bait. Augustin has been shopped harder than Henderson, but Brown and the organization put both on the block for a veteran point guard to help handle the backcourt with Felton. Augustin is too soft and not assertive enough.

2. The organization does not see Nazr as a vital part of this team due to being a defensive liability. By bringing in Theo Ratliff, they are essentially saying that eventually they're going to be going with a combination of Chandler and Ratliff down the stretch. Post scoring is not what this team is going to be built upon. Nazr is simply too soft to play hard minutes against the best centers in the East.

3. By picking up Tyrus Thomas, we have added yet another slasher with incredible defense. With Gerald Wallace, Stephen Jackson, Tyrus Thomas, and Raymond Felton we have above average athleticism and toughness at 4 out of 5 positions. This team is going to take the ball to the rim, take hard fouls, and make you out hustle them in order to win games. They're just as tough, if not tougher, in the defensive zone than they are in the offensive zone. This team is MEAN. Just like every team that Larry Brown has ever won anything with.

4. Boris Diaw is the ultimate wild card. On any given night he can either be the best or worst player on the floor. Last year, he was often the best on the floor. This year, he has often been the worst. Bringing in Thomas is going to be a push on Diaw to see how he responds. If he comes back strong for his minutes, it does nothing but help the team. He has the natural talent to be a big time scorer and his passing for a big is pretty damn good. He's soft too just like I said Nazr and Augustin are, but he's talented enough to still intrigue Brown.

5. Picking up Theo and Tyrus Thomas, who can both play two positions, we have set ourselves up to run a few different looks. We can go big with Thomas at SF and Theo at PF with Chandler at C. We can go finesse with Wallace at SF and Diaw at PF. I don't think this means that a bench player reserve we had is going to see a lot more minutes. I just think it means we're going to see the players we already had used in different ways.

6. We need a veteran guard pretty bad. He doesn't have to be spectacular, he just has to know how to handle the rock. Henderson is not going to see increased minutes. Neither is Augustin. We have to find a guy that we can trust not to try to do too much, play smart defense, and distribute the ball well. All the better if he can shoot well.
