Lamar

That sounds like someone rigged madden

I know its not cool to wish someone to be unemployed but fug that I am not shedding a tear when that unqualified fat fug is shown the door

Lamar Jackson, CMC, Jahmyr Gibbs, Garrett Wilson, DJ Moore, Adam Thielen, Michael Mayer, Jake Ferguson & Darnell Washington were there for the taking.

Just had to trade Brian Burns for the picks needed to get Lamar & pass on Ekwonu as a project LT.

I got slammed for projecting Lamar as the most likely QB to be primed for a SB per data. I was told CMC needed to be traded. I was told a project LT was more important than another playmaking WR. All I heard was the Panthers must draft a QB #1 to be a champion & it was worth giving everything up for Young. I was told Brian Burns would be a playmaker & was more important.

Fitterer failed!

Yep.

First: plenty of teams were in on Deshaun Watson who hadn’t played in basically two years. Rodgers was falling apart when the jets traded for him.

second: so? Force their hand. If you really believe the ravens are going to match you lose nothing by making them do so. The panthers weren’t tied to a starter. There was no downside in attempting this.

First, Watson didn’t miss games because of injury, Lamar couldn’t finish the year for 2 straight seasons because he got hurt in both years.  Which is a terrible sign for a guy dependent on his running ability to be successful.  I still don’t believe Lamar will make it through this contract playing at a high level.

Second, you 100% lose out because you have to spend the time negotiating with Lamar, which means you have to keep your cap room open and lose out on other players you could have signed in the meantime.  All for a player you were never going to get even if you signed him because the Ravens were always going to match any deal.

Yeah the Ravens were never letting him go. It would have taken some insanely stupid contract plus the 2 firsts and we would be left with no roster. Even Mahomes needs some sort of talent around him…

Yes, p-claw, only a couple people.  And the Ravens are getting maximum return right now, but this guy really hadn’t brought home any bacon worth that amount for that length of time, and had a worrisome injury history if I am remembering right. And do remember the playoff version of him. A question yet to be resolved.

And he has to stay healthy and produce at high levels for the length of the deal.

No Watson missed games for sex crimes. My mistake. And I guess those are more tiring and bad for the body than playing football because Jackson is fine this year.

and lmao tying up the cap. Like oh poo we can’t overpay for miles sanders

Lamar only weapons before this season was Andrews. He was basically Cam. He's one of those QB's who didn't need much around him to win games.

You telling me Lamar with DJ Moore in this weak division with the way the defense has played wouldn't be a playoff team right now?

Cmon Jimmy you know football. Lamar was winning 80% of his games with not much around him. He's doing it again this season with Andrews getting injured. He's relying on a rookie WR as his best weapon right now and a washed up OBJ.

Lamar was every bit worth that Watson contract.

Aside from what several others have pointed out regarding the circumstances of his alleged "availability," the MVP race this year really is an absolute joke. Lamar is "leading the way" right now with 24 TDs and 13 turnovers and just barely over 4000 yards including his rushing...

To compare to previous MVPs:

2022 Mahomes. 45 TDs, 12 turnovers, ~5600 yards

2021 Rodgers. 40 TDs, 4 turnovers, ~4200 yards

2020 Rodgers. 51 TDs, 7 turnovers, ~4400 yards

2019 Jackson. 43 TDs, 8 turnovers, ~4300 yards (although 1200 were rushing which is NFL record)

2018 Mahomes. 52 TDs, 14 turnovers, ~5300 yards

2017 Brady. 32 TDs, 11 turnovers, ~4500 yards

2016 Ryan. 38 TDs, 9 turnovers, ~5000 yards

2015 Cam. 45 TDs, 14 turnovers, ~4500 yards

Staggering difference between all of those (even the weaker ones like Brady and Ryan) and Lamar this year. Even if he puts up 8 more TDs and 600 yards the last 2 weeks, it's extremely weak compared to large majority of those years, and he's pacing to add 3 more TDs not 8.

MVP has become a team stat for QBs and the only reason Lamar is even in the conversation is because of the Ravens' record and a high profile late season victory over another top team last night. McCaffrey probably deserves MVP the most, or Tyreek Hill. But because they have to give it to a QB and others have either struggled (Purdy) or their teams have been losing (Hurts, Dak) it's Lamar as the favorite right now. His play is above average but 2nd tier this year. And he's got an elite OL and some weapons there, if he was here instead of Bryce he'd look like trash.

Lamar wins! That's what he does. He has never looked like trash, which is funny because you're totally discounting the "eye test," and I don't think he'd look like trash here. If you think he'd look like trash here, then you really would have to believe that any QB would look like trash here (which I don't really believe). He may not be in the MVP race if he came here, but no other QB would be in that race either.

Here is some food for thought:

"One number from his 2019 season that Jackson should eclipse by a significant margin is his passing yardage. He finished with 3,127 yards in 2019 but already has 3,105 this year.

The Ringer's Benjamin Solak pointed out that if Jackson continues passing and running at his current pace over the final three weeks of the season, he'll again make history.

With 171 passing yards and 97 rushing yards tonight, Lamar Jackson is now on pace for 3,770 passing yards and 900 rushing yards on the season.

A 3,700 passing/900 rushing season has never been done before in NFL history.

— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) December 18, 2023"

In my opinion, Jackson was largely underrated by many people last off-season, but after this season's performance and seeing how his mere presence affects the Ravens--his threat to run, his running AND his passing--the low-key criticism of him just rings even more hollow. He deserves to be considered a top tier QB in the league because he is a top tier QB in the league.

Schefty makes valid point

That was collusion. There's no way that teams, including David Tepper's Carolina Panthers, were going crazy for Watson and yet didn't even make an attempt at Jackson.

Also, I would like to add that Scott Fitterer notoriously sunk our chances at acquiring compensatory picks year after year. I hope the next GM has the mental capacity to play the compensatory game as well as the top teams in the league.

Sanders  4 year contract is less than half of 1 year for Jackson.

Not even remotely the same level of concern.
