I want to be proven wrong about Bryce Young, today is the first real step

Lots of posters choking on crow in here

I remember when Kyle Allen came in and had 4 stellar games in a row.  Everyone on the board gave the man no credit and said he it wasn't a big enough sample size.  As soon as the kid had one bad game every abandoned the kid.  This is like that in reverse.  I'm holding Bryce to the same standard.  He's had one good performance.  If he can have a few more I'll see it as a sign of growth.  One game means nothing, but it is at least a good sign.

Make sure you're keeping receipts on all the Bryce haters in this forum. They've been quiet today xD

I’ve seen more Bryce skeptics than haters. No one I’ve seen came into the season wishing for him to be a loser.

He had a great game but one game doesn’t undo the rest of the season. We will need to see more of this version of Bryce.

He’s already shown us flashes of great stuff through the season but people dismiss it cause it’s not the type of stuff they wanted to see.

That being said there’s no reason to say he’s arrived after today.  Just like there was never a reason to declare him a bust after 2 games.  This story is far from told but im looking forward to seeing how the rest of it plays out.

I would probably argue that the definition of great changes depending on who is doing the defining, and how they feel about who they are applying it to.

If we replace great with NFL level, it is a lot easier to concede that he had a good day.

I could root for him as an underdog but, he is no underdog. I mean, this guy had the golden ticket laid on him in high school, he is the media and corporate pick. And I looked and didn’t see why at a glance. So I started looking.

Performance only. Serious questions. I believe they are legit and I believe they have manifested on the field. Which brings us to the crossraods here. I never under any circumstances wanted to take a player that so much had to be done to accomodate them, it is about that simple.

At that position for what they paid, it was insanity masquerading as ‘we are smarter than you’. Now they are stuck with a job on the line life or death type of situation for a skill set that is a lot closer to what you find in the bottom of the 1st through about the 3rd round. And I feel like that is generous.

He has displayed grit and toughness, and I like a lot of what I hear (have never listened to a post game pc, it is other stuff), but it will take a lot more than that to make that arm stretch the field. It is like 2/3 or 3/4 or 7/8 whatever fraction you prefer, short of average. That will not go away. It has to be accounted for. There are things we will simpy never see as long as he is quarterback.

Speaking of… I realy loved the sneak fwiw. Favorite play.

If you're a Panthers fan you should want him to succeed. It's that simple. If you find yourself perusing various threads today you'll see the conversation on Bryce Young ends up between two groups with not much wiggle room. The next two games and next season hopefully show us the improvement and promise we seek.

Want needs to be tied to reason though. Like, you can want to win Powerball. Do you expect to win?

I’d like for him to be that guy. Do I expect it? Obviously from my posts, no.

Now as far as what is said here, Bryce Young never told me I was an idiot  for thinking he shouldn’t be the pick. That was posters here. It isn’t hating him to negatively comment on his football ability. And I can say something good without it meaning I love him.

313 yards. 60%+ completion. 2 TDs, no turnovers, game was only lost because of a poor defensive performance and officiating. After that first quarter Bryce was routinely making tight throws in places only the receivers could get them. When under pressure, he didn’t cave and often improvised for impressive results.

This is what I’ve wanted to for all year. We’ve seen flashes in a few other games, but this is the first time Young has absolutely wowed me. Here’s to many more!

Came here to say the same thing.  I've been viewed as one of his biggest detractors, and rightly so...  part of it was because I just didn't see what he did in college translating to the pros and the other half was once he was a pro, it looked exactly how I expected it to look for a guy that isn't going to be an NFL starter.

How he played yesterday was not just the most encouraged I've been, but it's the first time I was encouraged at all by his play.  And for good reason...  he finally took chances - smart ones, and located the throws in spots to give his guys a chance to make a play when the opportunity presented itself.

I also think this is a good time to point out to all of the "he's struggling because the receivers suck" folks - how'd those receivers look yesterday?  Those separation stats look a lot different after games when the QB actually gives them a chance to make a play and they make them.  How Chark looked yesterday is what he's always been capable of looking like.  He's a damn good player.  He just wasn't given legitimate chances, usually because Bryce wasn't comfortable attempting those throws in tight windows.  Same for Tremble and the rest...  Bryce has bona-fide weapons, he just wasn't comfortable using them in the way a pro QB has to use then- until yesterday.

Props to Bryce and also worth recognizing a good day at the office for Thomas Brown.  It looked like everyone was comfortable to some degree for the first time at that offensive side of the ball.  Hope they can build off of it.  I won't say I'm in on Bryce, but that at least gave me hope yesterday.  It's something to build off of.

Very well said.   Can’t argue with any of it.   Imo he still has a ways to go and his arm still gives me pause but at least yesterday he gave us something

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
