I would like to see if we could get Chase Young if he turns out to not be extremely expensive myself. If he stays healthy he is quite a player.

My guess is that someone will push the market value up. That happened with Clowney for a bit before teams realized he just was never going to ascend to elite status.

Projected tag price for Burns would be 23,342,000 FWIW.

excellent point

While many fans will say "well just tag and trade him", that's easier said than done as it rarely happens in the NFL.

I think the Panthers made their bed, for better or worse, when they chose not to accept the Rams offer. You turn down that deal your basically playing your hand saying well now we have to re-sign this guy. Again I don't want to debate that again bc it's come and gone now

Further the only team I could realistically see trading for Burns is either Jacksonville or Baltimore. We won't trade him to a division rival like Atlanta and I don't see any other NFC team besides maybe Detroit chasing him.

I’m not on the sign burns train for what he wants, but I don’t remember seeing any run plays towards Burns’ side. Maybe the opposing teams are running plays away from his side for a reason?
still, I see him playing patty-cake with right tackles and tight ends mostly.

You might want to rewatch the first half of yesterday’s game. It was atrocious. He’s not only not a factor in the games, he’s a liability. Most overrated Panthers player I can ever remember.

Tagging him if we pull off a S&T looks like the most economical option.

YGM has had the better overall year between he and Burns. He might not pop as much, but way more consistent and productive this year. Evero unlocked his potential.

Adding a true NT like Maduibuike or Wilkins beside DB will open up our pass rush more.

I think he is likely to refuse to sign if tagged. He bet on himself this season too and it was an absolute disaster for his market value. Better off shutting it down and forcing a move on our part.

I don’t think it works like that (but I may be wrong)

if he doesn’t sign the tag, we can tag him again in 2025. Players are almost forced to sign the tag, though he very well could holdout into the season.

What I mean is if he refuses to sign he is basically holding out. It's an untenable situation for us and him.

We would be absolutely buffoons to attempt to sit him the entire 2024 season and tag him again in 2025. That is lightspeed insane/retarded behavior.

It basically means we will trade him eventually.

Burns would be a buffoon too not to sign as you don't sign and play you don't get paid.  Spooderman ain't going two "prime" years without getting paid.

I don't think you are tracking. If he doesn't sign, we will trade him. AKA sign and trade(the franchise tender).

He has plenty of money, it's very simple to just hold out. We however cannot afford to play some strange dick measuring contest and not get any compensation.

    • So yea, we lost, but as many have said theres ways to lose that still provide hope and optimism.  THIS game was one of those.  At the end of the day, even though we're rocking a 36 year old QB, this is a very young team that has to learn how to win.  Think about the 2 XL drops, Mingo drop, the dropped fake punt.  Those are plays that veteran winning teams make, but we ARENT there...yet.  XL showed some explosion on the outside that is super exciting, chuba and dare I say Miles Sanders actually looked good.  On defense we are sorely missing Brown, and they were undeniably rough today, BUT, I remember thinking if there was a time they needed to show some "keep pounding" it was right after Shaq and Jewel went out, and the VERY next play the rush got to burrow and we got the turnover.  It was legitimately the first time in years I yelled "Keep pounding", that was an attitude play.  Also for all the bad on defense, Horn still looks like he does have that dawg in him.  End of the day as we all know, winning in the NFL mostly comes down to a handful of plays, and it really depends on if you convert those opportunities, and right now with our youth we arent, BUT that will change with experience. Keep Pounding.
    • Many. Recently, Snow had 3 rookies, a weak run defending DL and a garbage secondary led by Shaq as the only average LB. This defense is by far better than Snows roster. It may still be better than Snows roster with the injuries if not the same. Raheem Morris is an awful HC, but he's a good DC. He did more with less in 2023. His one piece was a used up (ready to retire) Donald. Put rookies in a position to make plays. He would have this Panthers defensive roster in the top 20.
    • Legit question. In the present day NFL how would that work now with rookie contracts?  I know the Mannings are NFL royalty, but if a team drafts him, they have his rights for 4-5 years no?  I’d draft him and make him hold out of years if need be just because I could.  That and I hate the Mannings.    Jericho caught the ball and they head hunted Cam. F Paintin’ Manning!
