Saints to host NFL kickoff game

Pittsburgh would slap them silly. I doubt the NFL wants that on opening day.

9-7 Pittsburgh who lost to the Chiefs, Raiders and Browns? Whose qb holds the ball all day giving Greg Williams many opportunities to punish him? Whose D got gashed all last season? Who traditionally cannot run the ball? Whose TE is not a big part of their offense? They would slap the defending SB champs silly?

I see that game playing right into the Saints' strengths. Passing team. Non-mobile Qb who holds the ball too long. Weak O-line play.

As I'm sure you know, the Saints weaknesses are run D and covering the TE. I don't see the Steelers exploiting either of those all that effectively. I would be willing to bet that at home, the Saints are between 3.5-6 point favorites against the Steelers.

Ben might hold on to the ball too long but he certainly is mobile. He can scramble and make things happen. He actually does it quite frequently if you pay closer attention.

I think the Steelers would give them a better game than anyone else frankly.

I think it would be a good game too. I'm certainly not implying that the Saints would dominate the Steelers, I'm just responding to the guy above who said the Steelers would "slap the Saints silly." I think a lot of what the Steelers do plays well into what the Saints do.

Just look at what happened the last time New Orleans played a defense like Pittsburgh. Once they get healthy again, it will return to how it was in '08 and I don't see the Saints being able to do anything. Maybe I went too far with "slap them silly", but I don't think they'd win.

Im surprised that nobody mentioned the Packers being SB contenders this year. Aaron Rodgers is probably a top 5 QB right now. He really wanted to the Cheese Heads favor when he took the job from Favre. It makes sense why they told Favre he wouldn't come back and just get the job without a fight.

That being said, I realize Radgers needs protection, but I am sure that will be Green Bays number one priority this offseason, protecting Rodgers. Jennings is a stud, but not selfish and the rest of the WR corps can cath the ball and make plays... kinda like a saints offense, only they probably have a better running game. If the DEF can stay consistent, they have to da*n good CBs and a great set of LB. They are just a few pieces away from a championship IMO.

But the Panthers will win of course...

The Saints played the 2 best defenses in the league - the Jets and the Vikings. They scored 24 and 31 points respectively. They won both games. So.... not so much.

I promise I'm not trying to be the resident Saints contrarian here, but the Packers have a better running game than the Saints?

Saints: 468 attempts, 2,106 yards, 4.5 ypc. 25 TDs

Packers: 438 attempts, 1,885 yards, 4.3 ypc, 20 TDs

Seems to me like the Saints ran the ball more often, more effectively, for more TDs. I don't know how the Pack could have a better running game. AND, the Saints threw the ball better than the Packers too. So it's not like the Saints just ran the ball because they were relying on the run more.

Don't get me wrong, neither team is the Ravens or the Panthers when it comes to running the ball. The Saints run the ball as much as they have to, and no more. The Packers are similar, but definitely not better.

    • A lot of people think this draft is weak at QB--I think, after the first five picks of the first round, there are a ton of developmental QBs who could develop into the role--here is the psychology behind it--Bryce becomes the mentor--you can learn as much by teaching others than by being taught.   It also makes him a true leader.  But I think there are a few QB in this draft that might not be ready now, but in 2 years, could be NFL starting QBs--Howard, Rourke, Ewers, Milroe, Dart, etc.  Talk about a cheaper backup and one that could evolve into trade capital--or if Bryce can't find consistency-his replacement.  Round 3 will have some of these qbs--maybe early day 3.
    • hopefully he has the impact on the run game post surgeries that TD had on defense after his surgeries.
