That Browns defense is no joke. Easily one of the best they’ve had in three decades.

Give me more time and more good decisions. They also have Watson too.

I would rather lean towards a more established show and with better personnel connections. A new GM would also be getting a new HC and that package from Cleveland is nothing I really want yet.

Yeah I am really not understanding this frank smith talk as a hot prospect.  Unless I am missing something his resume is pretty uninspiring and if we are only going after him because of the perceived notion that he helped turn tua around then that is going to be a catastrophe.

I'd say it also has to do with the question of who we can get (and who we can't)

It is when we've progressively gotten worse and his draft picks and major free agent additions look awful. I'd say it might be too soon if we were making smart moves in free agency with draft picks showing promise but if that was the case we wouldn't be the worst team in the league in his third year.

This. People can make the Rhule and Tepper excuses but when we are making the exact same mistakes during Rhule, after Rhule was placed on probation (some folks in here stated Fitterer got more control in 2022 offseason) and after Rhule but Tepper was forcing him.

I often asked people to give one example of a great move, just one, and no one could. Fitterer should have been gone with Rhule. Then maybe we wouldn’t have screwed up so much more.

He did turn CMC into a bunch of dead cap though.

Yeah let's pay millions for the best rb in the league to not play here in exchange for some dumpy picks that shitterer pissed away on trash. God McCaffrey must be so fuging happy how things worked out though.

Can't wait till Burns, who we owed basically nothing to when we got offered a haul for him, walks for nothing.  Fitterer has brought nothing positive to this team. We would be better off with a monkey smashing buttons at gm.

Really hard to say how smart of a football guy he is.   I'm a fan of interviewing smart people that have been at successful organizations and choosing the best.

I think his resume is actually pretty solid even if he hasn't been "the man" at his stops.

And he has worked under two offensive genius' in Payton and McDaniels.

From a reddit post about him (and keep in mind this is BEFORE his dolphins's success)

Saint Oline coach/offensive assistant

Bears TE coach

Raiders TE coach

Chargers run game coordinator/Oline coach

Just some quick highlights:

During his tenure from 2010 to 2014, the Saints offensive line allowed just 143 sacks, third fewest in the NFL. 4 pro bowl players with one (Jahri Evans) being an all pro 3 times

Had bad luck with injuries in Chicago

Oversaw the development of one of the best TEs in the game in Waller while in Oakland

Last year he took the last place ranked chargers Oline, transitioned them to a zone blocking scheme, and they were ranked 10th this season

Not only that but as run game coordinator he not only transitioned the blocking but the run offense and it actually improved, (1784 yards, 3.8/carry in 2020, 1834 yrds 4.3/carry this season)

Second hire that oversaw a successful transition to zone blocking and the third coach with a history of developing some of the leagues few top TEs AND the third coach with run game coordinator credits"

I want a GM who is a lackey for the all star coach we hire. I don’t want the GM operating independently any more. It doesn’t work. Dallas is the only team that makes this set up work and they have everything else working in their favor. We’ve seen what it looks like when personnel and coaching isn’t on the same page. Give the coach the players he wants, that fit his scheme, that will absorb his coaching and give the coach a full 4 years. Do not listen to outside voices, no more former players involved, no more owner involved. This is also the only set up that will land us a quality coach.

On coaching...

I get Ben Johnson is special as a play designer /play caller but not sure he is head coach material

People make that leap…some work some don’t

but to very honest with what I see in this franchise, they really aren’t tough enough in any realm and football is a tough Guys sport and they have zero superstars

….maybe it’s the overly calm current Qb…maybe it’s the tacit or incompetent coaching the past 5 years….maybe it’s general hopelessness that comes with this putrid offense but sick of them being every team’s ’get well ‘ game

I really want a HC that demands, expects, and will put up with no less, than a tough, smart, and striving for excellence. I dont care what side of the ball

seeing that DT, Tuttle, jump offside on a 4th and 1, guy would never play a down again for me….cost his team.     Singletary wasn’t a great coach but he nailed when he  said (sic) ‘don’t want dumb players, can’t win with them’

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
