Frank Reich was the fall guy

Most of the huddle has been watching football for a long time. You know the difference between winning QB play and hopeless QB play. I could see watching Dalton that he gave us a chance to win, and watching Young it was obvious he was hopelessly terrible. Now if you're the HC, and you value your job, then you pull Young and start Dalton. After that, you recognize that the run blocking scheme is not working well enough, so you switch to gap running. So you play action pass with gap running with Dalton at the helm, and Young prepares for next season without taking 50 sacks.

Now why didn't Frank and Beans make the obvious choice and start Dalton? One could speculate that our hedge fund owner had his head filled with ideas that Bryce had a super computer brain and could go out on the field and distribute the ball around like Pistol Pete Maravich on the basketball court. That Young, by the middle of training camp, had already memorized the playbook and was far advanced beyond any mortal rookie in NFL history. None of that poop was true. Young was NOT ready, and the gap in what he needed to learn at playing pro football was enormous. The only thing Pistol about Young was that he made Panthers fans want to use one when we were in pistol formation.

By week one we knew he didn't drop back properly, he didn't have anything close to proper footwork, he had no pocket presence nor awareness, and NFL safeties were outsmarting him. Consequently, he didn't stay in the pocket and deliver the football on time. We were subjected to watching him roll out of the pocket a lot, and always to his right every single time, and throw the ball on run to the right side of the field about as hard as I could as a teenager. Very predictable and easy to scheme against. At that point Frank must have been thinking about starting Dalton. But was Tepper looming over old Frank's shoulder? Frank is at the age where it's to play with your grandkids and go fishing, and instead he had a tyrant hedge fund manager screaming at him in team meetings.

Did Frank have the freedom to start Dalton? I don't know, but that appeared to be the obvious choice. Dalton could have had us at close .500 imo, and the stadium would have at least had a decent crowd of Panthers fans. .500 might have saved Frank, especially with the promise of Young starting next season. 1 win with Young in extreme danger every game had only one outcome. Early retirement.

He was stuck with a QB he probably didn't want and was expected to perform miracles.

The whole playbook indicates that Young was very limited and he knew it. Only so much he could do with what he had.

I have a feeling Tepper had his foot on his neck to start Young and make it work. He was probably relieved that he was let go.

This whole thing with Tepper and Young had set this team back years. Having to take all kinds of crap from your boss and be the fall guy really sucks.

Frank Reich was running 70-30 passing schemes with a rookie qb who was struggling, he was not the fall guy lol.

Frank made his bed, who cares if he didnt get the QB he wanted. he built this playbook from scratch and it doesnt work because he built for the team he wants not the team that he had. Mingo and Chark dont suddenly because decent receivers because CJ is under center.

The moment Frank left our running game actually because decent, we could have used that all season.

The fact that adult males believe Reich and that staff suddenly forgot how the game of football works as opposed to QB1 being limited, gives me an understanding as to why the country is in shambles.

Did you see how it was going last year in Indy?

You can read between the lines on the Russini report and take away that Frank, Josh, and Duece were likely the 3 coaches who wanted him benched by week 5. He wasn’t benched, Tepper’s decision(weekly meetings) likely prevented that and Frank lost the team bc he was forced to continue playing him. Said in the report players felt Bryce was coddled. Any other rookie QB in league history gets benched by now but somehow he’s still the unquestioned starter?

He didn’t build the playbook, clearly, for 30 years he’s had his QBs operating under center, we call no plays under center. There were many reports that Thomas Brown built the playbook, which would make sense with all the zone running. Thomas Brown was forced onto Frank by ownership, they didn’t want him hiring all his friends like he did in Indy. Brown was a running backs coach who had no business calling plays in the NFL. Tepper and the FO constructed a poor staff around Frank.

There is no way Stroud doesn’t make WRs better than Young does.

Him being handed team captain is just as bad. There has been no semblance  of him earning anything since he was drafted. Cam called this out in his interview.

Frank wouldnt even let Thomas call the plays you think he going to let him built the playbook alone? He built the playbook Frank wanted him to make, you can tell because the offense Thomas said he wanted to create and the one we ran were two different things.

that was one game like 12 weeks ago with all the injuries and coaching turnover the Panthers arent even the same team they were yesterday. Aidan O'Connell had 4 tds yesterday and the entire raiders offense had zero the week before. One game doesnt mean much.

Yes, the sample size of one game is too small. The solution is a very simple one: get more samples.

Frank made Thomas call what he wanted when Tepper made him let Thomas call it. And that was section of the playbook Brown had no choice to copy and paste.  It was Frank’s basics/core.

we still got posters that are living and dying on stuff the Panther org says as truth…..when it’s just spin for the narrative they wanted at the time.  We already know they said a bunch of untruths.   They tried to build up Thomas Brown’s role with some spin ….because he was actually employed here to be the assistant to the OC (Frank).   Almost an apprentice role.  Like just being able to call games late in preseason when the future car salesman were playing. Thomas Brown didn’t write our playbook if the core was Frank’s and it made up the majority of the book.

I doubt Frank even wanted a lot of his staff.  It was all Tepper mismatched forced pairings.  Which continued over to players.

    • I know most of this place doesn't favor Bryce, so I'm preaching to the choir. Also - screw the Broncos and Peyton.   Okay, with that being said... Seeing what Nix has done this season is something we should all tune into.  Why?  His first two games were, well bad would be putting it lightly.  He looked in over his head, pro-level shocked, you could see the anxiousness.  He needed to settle down in the pocket and adjust to the game.  And you know what? He did just that.     And as the season has progressed, he has got better and better each week. All this through OL injuries and weapons like Sutton, Vele (who?), Lil'Jordan Humphrey (who?) & Mims, he has managed to ascend and bring himself into ROTY contention over Jayden Daniels & Brock Bowers.   And he's making advanced throws, layering in the second level, put them in position to beat KC the other week until the ST unit lost it. The short version of my point - Bryce's recent "progression" is relative.  This is the type of progression you would like to see as a season goes on and a kid gets adjusted to the pace of the NFL. Bo Nix Notable 2024 Stats (Through 11 games): 19 TDs (14 pass, 4 rush, 1 rec), 6 INTs, 2,275 pass yards, 295 rushing, 65.5% comp, 6.4 YPA Last 5 games: 10 TD, 1 INT, 1,193 pass yards, 115 rushing, 70.6% comp, 7.4 YPA
