Trade rumor: Peppers for Umenyiora

I'd take this. Sure I'd love a pick in addition but at the chance of losing Pep for nothing, I'd take it straight up. You have to figure there were offers last year and they weren't enough. Pep is another year older and will only get more inconsistent, I say take what you can get.

I rather have Tuck

+1.

Osi didn't find himself on the bench and playing w/ the 2nd string for no reason. Dude is talented but also has issues.

I'd keep Pep for another year instead of that deal. Send Pep to the AFC or keep him.

yeah me and one of my homeboys just had this discussion last week. i would rather keep pep, but wouldnt mind tuck.isnt osi coming off a torn acl or mcl from 2 years ago?

i think so...plus, Osi isn't conisistant either. Pep isn't consistant but at least is a bigger playmaker and makes bigger plays more frequently.

throw in their steve smith and it's a deal. imagine the blown defensive assignments by opposing teams... "You said cover steve smith!" "wtf I DID cover steve smith!"

LOL. That would be confusing as hell. 2 Steve Smiths in the same position on the same team on the field at the same time almost every snap. Gives me a headache just thinking about it. But I would love this deal.

I think they would need to throw in some extra compensation. I don't think Osi has nearly the trade value as Pep after this year. But Smith is probably out of the question. I would love this deal if they would throw in Rames Barden.

julius peppers and the panthers appear headed for divorce.

Julius peppers and rex ryan would be a match made in heaven. Too bad the jets, because they made it to the afc championship game, won't be able to sign a marquee free agent unless they lost one first.

Because it would require players to have six years of service time -- instead of four -- to become unrestricted players in the imminent uncapped year, peppers would be far and away the biggest fish in a small pond.

The giants have talked about the importance of maintaining fiscal responsibility during these perilous economic/nfl times.

there is, however, one scenario that should get giants president john mara and co-owner steve tisch scurrying for their fishing rods -- if osi umenyiora truly wants out.

It doesn't take much to go from pretender to contender in one year in the nfl. The giants took the first step toward restoring the pride of big blue by replacing overmatched defensive coordinator bill sheridan with the fiery perry fewell. That was a mere appetizer.

Peppers would complete the meal.

My question is this...

Is there even a trade market for Pep? He is one of the most productive DEs in the league, yet he gets obliterated every week in the media for being "lazy." I feel like teams are going to have the mindset that it would be nice to have him but not if they have to trade for him because they know the discontent that he feels in Carolina.

Therefore, I'm putting the chance of a tag and trade at around 10%. IDT that teams will be willing to trade what he is worth and because of that I feel that Hurney is just going to say screw it and let him walk. Worst case scenario has almost happened...letting one of the best defenders in the league walk for nothing. Its a situation that has built up and built up and now we are just going to have to face the facts that we are getting nothing out of him.

You can't really say we are getting nothing. We did have his services for the better part of a decade. Plus we would get a 3rd round compensatory pick next year. It still would suck but I would rather have that then pay him 21 mill.
