A more fair statement...

I'm willing to bet there may be a connection with the people he threatened/felt threatened.

At times it's clear and obvious when someone is reaching out for some help, even on a message board and it's not always obvious. He didn't seem to reveal much in the way of needing major help outside of the bad things he said, did or suggested he would do.

There might have been a handful of guys he would fully listen to and then chill. I vividly remember warning one poster not to stir him up and that was well over a year ago. Some people you just have to know the outcomes based on how you treat them. Some just didn't care.

There are a few people here that I may see things the same as them maybe 10% of the time. But it's far more important to me to at least to be a friend or approachable then to be right or show them I'm smarter or more awesome or whatever.

The net can mask so much and at times you have to overcompensate to make sure your audience knows either you are joking or you are not angry when you respond etc.

Personally, even if you had the worst interaction with him why even bring it up? The guy is gone and now you go public? What has been accomplished? Now we look all normal and adjusted and feel better about ourselves?

Perhaps it shows again how we don't want to get out of our comfort zone. We might be nice in public but based on your beliefs or where you were born or the color of your skin we end up judging others and then put them in a box thus limiting potential friendships.

The I told ya so is for losers and narrowmindedness.

I completely agree with where Zod is coming from that despite the darkness, at least he took only himself. It could have been much worse.

Not much could have been done to stop what he did, however what can be done going FORWARD is recognizing within yourself where your biases are and how you discriminate and judge. Don't think we don't because we do. It just may be more covert because you have learned how to behave.

I haven't placed Clifton on a pedestal nor have I demonized the guy. Not my job either way. His is a cautionary tale but also a much deeper lesson into our own faults and how we see and treat others. Especially those unlike ourselves.

Now Panthro..set a date so JR and I can do the play by play and create a memory.

Sorry PStall, no one did anything that warranted him threatening men women and children with violence. Pointing it back on us is completely baseless.

No one is saying I told you so either, but I do agree this is a learning experience for some of us.

So a guy threatens people to the point of them being scared to say anything, having to look over their shoulders, and is allowed to keep posting on the Huddle despite it? Im assuming(i know, thats wrong) many of these threats took place on here. Why was he allowed to stay? Fear or reprisal if he were banned?

But, when the same person blows his own brains out after leaving 13 starving horses to die, they arent allowed to say anything about it out of respect?

like zod said, im glad the guy decided to go it alone.

Disclaimer: I didnt know the guy... and i cant think of an instance he ever really threatened me other than usual interweb smartass banter, but heck, it makes you wonder.

Been trying to edit for about 10 mins but my work pc is not helping.

By no means am I pointing at anyone. Meant for it to be more rhetorical ie as if we are ALL learning a lesson by this.

Absolutely he had no reason on any level to do what he did as far as his threats. I hope enough of you know me to know I wouldn't be close to thinking that.

To summarize my novella it's simply this. Let's all look ahead and learn from this and take a look at our inner circle of friends. Treat them even better than you have and be more willing and open to reaching out to someone you don't have much in common with.

I get to do some lessons at my church from time to time and type how I would say something to a large crowd. You throw out a tough revealing rhetorical that applies to the speaker and the audience. If the shoe fits deal.

Again. I'm not mad at anyone or pointing fingers. Had I gotten back to being able to edit it would have made more sense. Working on issues at work and typinng something about this topic don't mesh well together.

Wow. Never heard about this stuff.

I know - second hand - of an incident from another board where a couple of guys battling back and forth over football stuff actually escalated into real world violence.

Guy number one was a former college football player and, as you can imagine, a fairly big fellow.

Guy number two was, shall we say, a piece of work.

This fellow was a know-it-all, internet tough guy (think G-Man, only worse). He was always throwing personal attacks at people, never admitted to even the possibility of being wrong, and often used personal details of peoples lives to criticize them (one poor fellow who admitted to having had awful bouts with alcoholism always got that thrown in his face when they debated). Number Two also often claimed to work for a national football publication, but wouldn't name which one. Nobody believed him, of course, but he insisted it was true and used it as a way to say that he was better than the rest of us.

At some point, after a particularly heated squabble, Number Two got up the guts to meet Number One at an appointed spot for a fight. You can probably guess the result.

The fellow who told me the story said the loudmouth guy didn't know when to quit. As a result, the big guy beat him down so badly that he ended up feeling sorry for him and was remorseful over the whole thing.

I'd tussled with guy number two once or twice before (he even PM'd me) but I couldn't believe he'd actually been willing to get physical with someone, and all over football message board arguments.

As I'm sure someone will say, the internet is serious business :sosp:
