Holy Cow! We all knew he had or was having health problems but still..........

Yea I know... I mean he's been having health issues for awhile, but he couldn't kick his bad health habits.... I know living like that during the season is a huge strain on their bodys. Very sad... R.I.P.....

Deadliest Catch is the main reality show of this kind that I watch...I'll watch Ice road truckers, but Axe men and everything else doesn't do it for me. I hope they don't show too much during this season.

Man..it was a little tough to watch Phil during last nights episode knowing that he is dead. Also sad to know that his son Jake is on the Northwestern when Phil is first hit with the embolus. I'm sure that Sig gets Jake back to Dutch so he can be with his dad though.

Jonathon was sure pissed!

I agree it was very tough and a little strange. Too watch a chronicle of someone's last days, someone that does not know they are going to be gone so soon, is somewhat disturbing. Watching some of the decisions that he made, you can't help but sit there and wonder, "Would he do this if he KNEW he was going to be dead in 6 months?".

It really drives home the thought of not knowing what tomorrow brings.

I wonder if Phil had taken the proper measures to prevent future emboli? I mean most people are on anticoagulants and have filters placed. The guy was tough as nails but a trainwreck healthwise. In reality he should have died when he had the first one 2 season ago. A PE is no joke.

From the looks of him in the season opener, he had not. I don't know if he was on anticoagulants or not, but he had not lost an once of weight and I believe he was still smoking and most likely drinking.

His was a hard lifestyle to change though. I know career Navy guys and merchant marines that live like those guys do. Hell, I lived like that when I was in the Navy. You work so hard for months on end for 15-20 hrs a day every day. You get a few months a year on dry land and you are loaded with cash. Everyone around is living insanely, so you do too. It is hard to be a "healthy" person in that situation.

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
