How to replace Julius Peppers if he was to leave

Start Charles Johnson, keep grooming E. Brown. Look into Kampan and maybe some talented 1st round busts in the league like J. Moss or Gholston maybe they can show something in the 4-3.

I want to see what Gholston can do at 4-3 DE. He has all the talent in the world maybe he is just miscasted. Has any one heard if the Jets are shopping him? You also have to consider he is only 2 years into a huge rookie contract so we would have to take that.

I would be excited to see him at DE here. I think he would be tremendously better in our scheme and with the personnel (both player and coaching) around him. Who knows the last 1st round DE bust we got turned out to be a perfect fit in our run D maybe he could do the same for the pass rush.

CJ already should be starting (over Brayton but I think he fits at RE better) and if nothing else would be a great 2 down DE. Then we let Brown and some one like Gholston come in on passing downs and have CJ or Brayton move inside.

Yep I agree. But the solution to replacing Peppers isn't just at DE, we have to establish an inside rush at DT, we haven't had one in at least 2 years. We need to fix that even if Peppers stays.

Kyle Vanden Bosch, for all you John Fox haters out there and believe me I wanted Cowher this year too. He does know how to build a defense. Our D was built in the beginning to stop the run, mainly in our division Michael Vick. Now he understands that the NFL has changed(With the rules with WR and roughing the QB) and now must stop the pass, again in our division Drew Brees. That is why he hired Ron Meeks. I hate to see Pep leave but we have all seen it coming for years now. I think we will be okay.

the panthers are already built to beat drew brees.

if you take away the last quarter of the 2008 season, when brees just went insane against like people we were pulling out of the stands at the end of the season, the panthers have handled him quite impressively compared to the rest of the league.

If you believe Charles Johnson is ready to be a starter, he's the guy. Brown and Taylor become backups/pass rushing specialists.

At DT, I'm pretty sure they can get four or five guys that are worth keeping out of the glut they have right now.

Even minus Peppers, the DL could be a strength next season.

I think our standards of DT has been lowerd by watching average play for so long. I haven't annyone beast like jenkins, pass rush like moorehead, or split a double team like carstens. For some reason those guys worked in a rotation. I think the two guys we traded will be some of the best we've seen in a while but we need some kind of an anchor.

The player your looking for is Geno Atkins or in a pipe dream Brian Price. Both are excellent at that. Atkins I see more as a disrupt the pocket kind of DT, getting into the back field and disrupting the play. I see Price as a more complete DT in that he plays the pass and run well and he also draws a lot of attention from blockers.

I guess it depends on how you want to go. Atkins is a real possibility because he probably will go early day 3 (thats weird saying), tremendous value there. Most likely we will bring in a scrub FA or a late round pick to try to find that consistent interior pressure.

Leonard was looking like a stud before the injury and I think Tyler was miscast at NT (he fits in better at UT). But I agree I was very impressed with the job that Hurney did fiixing a huge hole in a hurry with good talent (even though if they had listened to me and got Sammie Lee Hill instead of Irvin we wouldn't have needed to).

All in all I see our whole Dline in the best shape its been in for a couple of years. A few more pieces and were set.

Johnson, Brayton and Brown give us a good 3-man rotation that should really thrive this year, especially with some stability at DT. I highly doubt we'd go after a big DE free agent like Kampman, but I would definitely sign a mid-level FA or draft a DE in the 3rd/4th to compete with Taylor for the 4th spot.
