McDermott reportedly wasn't the biggest fan of Cam

I don’t understand the neg comparisons to Allen but there is no perfect player. Every one of them could do better, with few exceptions. It’s a lot, being great at every aspect.

My thing with Cam was HOF greatness unfulfilled. I wish he had visibly addressed things that were not 100% to potential, and I would feel much better about how it all went. I feel he left a fair amount on the football table.

Maybe he did a ton of work people didn’t see but the first offseason he went back to college. I had a different plan lol. But he went his entire career without learning how to take something off the ball (until his shoulder forced that). He was kind of the ultimate power hitter that strikes out a lot. You have to take that along with the homers. We had to take the overthrows and the finger breakers that guys couldn’t handle along with the superman stuff. He was man among boys at times.

I just thought he was so gifted that it came too easy for him and he left things on the table. I guess some people will be all mad about saying he wasn’t perfect.

Now that stuff about did he understand the game, I wonder because of the simplicity of the offense and the reliance on his legs, but then there is that “oh, you been watching film huh? Watch this” which is the greatest audio ever. So what are you gonna say about that now? I can’t say anything. I would say he understands it.

I do think that had he somehow gotten footwork together and benefitted from some improved accuracy, he would have been HOF shoo in and there would have been some real hardware.

As to McDermott saying that style of play always loses in the long career department or however he said it, I agree with that.

I don’t know what he could have meant by ruining.

Cam's shoulder got ruined. What was he supposed to do to change that?

Keep telling yourself that only delusional panthers fans would believe it..

It’s crazy that we’re having this conversation. Josh Allen is the highest graded QB on PFF every year, he’ll go down as a top 10 QB of all time. Cam was good and really entertaining, but he could not take over games and dominate from the pocket consistently like Allen.

It’s so sad how this fanbase lives in the past. Who cares what a coach from 6 years ago thought about players that aren’t on the roster anymore? I get this team isn’t entertaining but move on already.

The past is all we have. It's the only part of being a Panthers fan that actually brings joy.

Lol. So all players and coaches from this team’s past can never be thought about or discussed again? What a fuging ridiculous post. You’re on a Panthers forum, the team is 1-11, there is a piece of news about core organizational figures that just came out. Don’t want to join in then don’t click into the thread

That's a knock on PFF then because Mahomes is the best QB on the league and has been for awhile.

We never got to see Cam play with the type of weapons Allen has had in an offense where he wasn't expected to carry the load each and ever Sunday. I think folks forget how often Cam also led the team in rushing yards.

Allen is one helluva QB, don't get me wrong. But if I'm picking between Josh Allen at his best and Cam Newton at his best all else being equal, I'm taking Cam all day everyday.

I don’t really understand what I said has much to do with that unfortunate poo. That goes under play style and career trajectory. Or plain old Black Cat luck.

I am talking about stuff that wasn’t necessarily a strong point, stuff  was there when he came into the league. I never thought it was… prioritized in the off seasons. When you break rookie records I guess you are already built well enough. I think that was the mindset maybe.

I know he got cut way short and what I talked about may not have mattered at all because it was such a short career.

In terms of underperforming on his HOF potential it has everything to do with it. Cam was absolutely on a HOF trajectory.

We could do this for years. It’s how I feel. No ill will just real.

It's a weird hill to die on as a Panthers fan. All the sucking we've done. All the terrible QBing we've watched. And still a decent chunk of this fanbase wants to nitpick the best QB and only NFL MVP we've ever had.

Blah blah another Cam thread!! Jake did pretty good when comparing to Cam!! Jake didn’t choke in the Superbowl the kicker named Kasay decided to have a stroke and kick it out bounds!! Cam should have not been lazy and grabbed the fumble!! Regardless both costly plays… we should be proud of our franchise even though it’s ugly now!! Cuz our sister franchise the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t been to the Superbowl and they came to the NFL the same year as us!! Also I was originally a Cowboys fan before we had a team.. and they haven’t won a Superbowl since!! Let that sink in.. I wish I still had my Aikman jersey for s&gs

I'm not dying man and I don’ty see a hill. I have an opinion about a player. I was a Cam fan, wanted more for him that I believe was in his reach. You think I am the only person that feels that way? And if I was so what.  Watched ball for over 60 years seen most of them come through.

    • Watching Rams/Eagles. Celebrating the St Louis Rams team that won the SB (Warner, Holt, etc..) while playing in Los Angeles seems wrong.  If I were in Los Angeles, no way I would attend a Rams game.  Probably wouldn't attend a Chargers game either.  Becoming a fan of a team that likes to move around just seems like a waste of energy as a fan.
    • The only responses I am getting after providing statistics to put opinions in perspective seem to be from people who get angry and attack stats and people whose opinions differ from their own.  Have people on the Huddle ever overreacted, exaggerated, been wrong about players before?  Sure they have, so an alternative opinion with statistical support should not cause you to attack me or my views.  I am sorry your public schools failed you.  But your reactions are very revealing--you are stuck in Piaget's concrete operational stage--learn logic, how to debate a topic, and learn the difference between facts and emotional opinions.  When I paralleled Cam's stats with Jones' to point out how remarkably similar their careers have been to this point, It blew some 40 watt minds.  I think Jones, in a better situation, could be good--that should not upset you--
    • penalties and poor hands is what cost us in the RZ Bryce missing "high" in the back of the end zone is not an issue, you're taught as a QB to throw high in the back of end zone were only the receiver can catch or no one The duo of Ian Thomas and Tommy tremble can both go at the end of the season, both been here for multiple seasons and they've barely developed
