Charlotte, Miami in mix for Haywood?

11:41AM ET

Brendan Haywood | Wizards | Interested: Rockets?, Heat?, Trail Blazers?, Bobcats?

Top Email

Previously, we've touched on the trade prospects of Brendan Haywood and his expiring contract.

As ESPN's Marc Stein reported a week and a half ago, the Blazers, with Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla out for the season, are interested in Haywood. But the main snag here is that the Wizards are looking for Rudy Fernandez and Nicolas Batum back in such a deal, and the Blazers aren't amicable to that.

Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports similarly today, but also adds Houston, Miami and Charlotte into the mix of teams that could land Haywood.

Haywood would likely come to the Rockets in a deal that involves Tracy McGrady.

So if the Blazers really want Haywood, they may have to part with Fernandez or Batum if one of these other three teams steps up with an offer the Wizards can't refuse.

I wouldnt mind having him, he can play pf in games against big teams or teams where we cant afford to have a turnstile of a PF like diaw starting. He has quietly had probably one of his best seasons. He is averaging pretty much a double double at 10 points 10 boards a game along with 2 blocks a game.(Not to mention .561 from the field) i think we could really bolster our frontcourt with him, perhaps a deal like Diop/2nd rounder for haywood might be able to get done. Ive also heard rumblings that stephen graham could potentially be traded as well. so maybe him included.

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
