The fewest number of plays ran, like 6th fewest, could mean we dont convert enough 3rd downs, we have a lot of big plays, turnovers and or defense not getting off the field enough. The only thing our teams seemed to have lacked, but not totally, is grinding out long drives that take 6 - 9 minutes off the clock. It has happened, but if any gripes then maybe its good to see a few more of those, since that what physical teams do, and we consider ourselves that. There are many spins you can put on this article but it's an interesting way to view the offense.

:yikes: It's not anyone's fault that DeAngelo will break free and run the length of the field for a TD in a few plays. Who is going to ask him to not do that? Or Smitty is gonna' catch that long ball that gets us close to the end zone faster. So in the last 7 games we've had TD's in just a few minutes. Because we now have playmakers. That's a problem every team wished they had. That can be a problem for our defense but they are just going to have to deal with it and get off the field faster. Especially in the 4th quarter. The only time we don't win with this offense, IMO, is when the other team plays keep-away and our offense doesn't get on the field. It's the same problem the Colts have had. It's a new problem for the Panthers and I love that we have it. :thumbsup:

I bet you the game plan isn't to go out there and chuck the ball into double and triple coverage and pray smith comes down with a miracle, and if it is then that's even worse.

If Jake was actually accurate those miracles wouldn't be miracles at all, they would be touch downs.

It's pretty bad when even moose has to cut off his route to come back to the football.

Of course you should throw smith the ball, no one said not too.

Other receivers on this team can play too if given a chance, Jarrett has caught damn near everything tossed his way(which isn't much), and mostly on big downs such as 3rd.

Jake locks in on Smith too much which is a huge problem, just refer to 2005, and ask Seattle.

Which is a good thing to look into considering were in the playoffs again this year, ya know, a time of the year where one man will not magically bail you out every time.

Smith can be shutout by a good defense. If we make it far into the playoffs Jake will have to make plays to other targets, as we will face teams that can stack the box and double smith effectively.

did anyone watc brady last year? the anoited one had everyone slobbering all over his junk when the threw it to moss, even when moss had to bail him out completely (maimi game where he underthrew it, moss double covered makes a 1 handed catch). you find ways to get the ball to playmakers, when they can do what moss and smitty can, at times you ask them to make the play. when brady did it he was poraised, when jake does he is belittled. this is not to say these 2 qbs are in the same ballpark, but when it comes to throwing it up and asking for the wr to make a play, one is a genious, the other is an idiot thats bailed out.

I would say at least 7 of their tds was Brady throwing it up to Moss to let him make a play. All WRs are not the same, when you have one like that, it's what you can do at times. Jake doesn't do it with anyone but Smitty just like Brady didn't do it with anyone but Moss.

Hell, Brees pretty much "threw at double coverage" in the EZ against the Cats this past Sunday and at least one other time I recall and of course since he is a perfect paragon of QBs he wasn't criticized.

The problem in that game was more lack of run game, getting their asses kicked up front on both sides, and great second option @ receiver, but I digress...

On at least two of the "bailouts" (GB the last one, and this last on in NO) Smitty wasn't even Jake's first read. This is one of those myths that just keeps being perpetuated, just like the unorthodox nature of their relationship on the field always is only "bailouts". If you want a throw that was purely 100% luck, how about the one @ NYG that went right through Ross' hands into Moose's?

I think Mason does a great job on these articles and this one was no exception. One thing I noticed this year is that the Cats' 3rd down % improved a bit as the year went on. I think they ended up @ 39% which isn't wonderful but a great improvement over 2007. And it still beat Henning's Fins.

I'm sure that if Fox007 had been the Panthers QB back in 05, he would have made Kerry Colbert, Drew Carter, and Michael Gaines into pass catching superstars instead of throwing the ball to Smitty most of the time....he's that good.
