POST SEASON - Jake Delhomme in his prime vs. Peyton Manning

I just don't think the ENTIRE blame needs to be on manning. yes he threw a pick 6.

other individual failings include:

Stover missing a Field goal

Pierre Garcon dropped a sure fire first down plus extra yards after the catch that killed their drive.

at the end of the game, manning was marching the colts downfield and reggie wayne dropped the pass on 4th down right at the goal line.

The colt's defense could not stop drew brees if their life depended on it, and that is why they lost. yes the interception was manning's fault. i'm just saying it's hard for any QB to come off the bench that cold and be expected to produce amazingly. he needs help and his supporting cast let him down too and to put the loss squarely on manning's shoulders is ridiculous. He had an outstanding postseason before the super bowl, and in recent years his post season performances have been solid. His super bowl performance this year was solid as well, he was just never on the field and he threw a stupid pick. everyone does.

Why is no one jumping on the tom brady's legacy is ruined bandwagon since he has sucked in the playoffs the past two games he played?

I was never putting all the blame on Manning. I'm simply pointing out that he is flat out not a good post season quarterback, and mistakes or not, he had a chance to make up for it and tie the game. He didn't, and failed with a pick 6 the other way.

and Peyton Manning has never had a 'legacy' like Tom Brady's. Tom Brady has won 3 super bowls(and was a HUGE factor in each one.) while Manning won one where he turned the ball over twice and got 1 touchdown.

negative. that was kasay's fault for kicking it out of bounds. choke!

:P

I'd like to know the thought process it takes in order to place the names Peyton Manning and Jake Delhomme in the same sentence.

Seriously?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Want to know my thought process? My thought process right now is driven by the fact we have well over 200 days left before the season starts again, and I have a boring ass geology lab where I end up thinking about the most random poo. :D

I'm not comparing regular season, I'm comparing post season. If you can show me a Peyton Manning statline that is better than Jake Delhomme(2003) in the POST SEASON then I'll admit I'm wrong.

true. that was an exceptionally long field goal for an old guy like that. either way, to put every post season loss the colts have experienced solely on peyton manning, is ridiculous in my opinion. he can't win every game all by himself and he can't lose every game all by himself. it took a team effort to lose the superbowl on sunday.

again, I'm not placing blame on Peyton for the entire loss. I'm placing blame on Peyton Manning for choking when he had a chance to win it. You can't sit there and say it was a 'team effort loss' when Peyton gave the team a 2 score lead late in the 4th quarter.

True, but he was blamed for many games where he didn't throw as many.

It's just the mindset that was engraved into Carolina fans minds once the whole "BENCH JAKE!" thing started. Completely ignoring a shakey defense and horrible play calling. No doubt he should have been benched early, but some games weren't entirely his fault.

You can't really pick and choose the best qualities of jake and the average qualities of manning to say who's better. I'll take manning everytime for pretty much every possible reason.

I know. but RIGHT NOW, I'd take 2003 Jake Delhomme over Peyton Manning in the super bowl.

Peyton doesn't deserved to be mentioned in the same sentence as Brady and Montana as all time greats.

If he comes in and wins a couple more super bowls then maybe, but here's an interesting fact.

PEYTON MANNING has more first round exits as a quarterback than any other player. Most of which were due to poor performances by him.

Peyton Manning's Pro Stats Page

peyton manning's post season stats and his super bowl stats on there.

i'd take those stats in a heartbeat.

28 TDs-19 picks

5164 passing yards

62.6% completion percentage

87.4 QB rating (i'm not sure how to calculate it, but it can't be far off from this number)

9-9 career record

6 first game exits.

1 Superbowl title.

I mean, I'd have no problem with that.

Remember when John Elway couldn't win the superbowl? People shat on him.

I guess in order for no one to dump on peyton he will have to win 3 back to back to back titles.

I'm not dumping on Peyton, I just don't understand all the hype he gets. For the past month I've been hearing nothing but "peyton manning is the greatest quarterback of all time, he's better than brady and will be better than joe montana"

and as a side note: John Elway owes both of those super bowls to Terell Davis :P

If we had Peyton Manning playing here in '03 and '05, and heck, probably in '08 playing with Steve Smith, we would have multiple Super Bowl titles.

Doubt it. Manning tend to choke in the Playoffs a lot beside the Superbowl recently. He should be thankful Colts won 3 yrs. ago, otherwise he might never won a SB at all like Marino.

And as for which I would take between Manning & Jake in the Superbowl (We're not talking about who is the best QB there. Just in the Superbowl), it depend. I would take Manning in the SB win against the Bears over Jake. But I take Jake over Manning in the SB lost against the Saints. I guess it kinda even there.
