Pep No longer wants long term Deal

Im usually bad about reading into things. I look past the front people put on and try to interpret what is really going on. That is how I feel about this one. The media is the media. They can make a good thing a bad thing, and vice versa. He is using the media to look like a good guy this year. He figured out how it ended up last year.

I think you give him too much credit.

I think people have insinuated for a long time he only cares about the money. If he only cares about the money why would he care where he is? Why wouldn't he have signed that contract? It just doesn't make sense. He doesn't speak much and it's not like this radio thing is going to get national attention (even with the articles on ESPN and such - most people won't see this and the people who count already know what he wants - because they'll contact his agent). The only reason he would go on the radio is if he has some personal feelings about it all. And the only thing the radio thing will do is make the Panthers notice him. The other teams already know about him and can find out things in better ways.

I think the sillence says we have moved on. Since we couldn't sign him long term we aren't going to franchise him and absorb the 20 million dollar salary. They probably don't think we can negotiate a long term deal now either. I figure we will cut Kemo, let Peppers walk and use the 30 million in savings to pick up some free agents or go wiith what we have. I don't know anything for sure but figure that the FO is just tired of dealing with him. With the uncertain financial future out there, I suspect they are just ready to save the 30 million and develop someone else. With that said they will probably do the opposite. What do any of us know at this point??

You sure? I mean I don't doubt your opinion but did you listen to it or read some of the interview?

I just don't agree. I'm no expert and you could be right but it just seems like he wants to be here.

I didn't listen to it, but I did read the articles. It's nice to think that Peppers appreciates Meeks' new defense, but I still think he wants out. When it comes to rushing the passer, I don't think Meeks' defense was all that different than Turgovac's -- at least not so much so that Peppers would feel he was used more effectively. I think the defense as a whole improved tremendously, but I'm not sure Peppers did anymore than he usually did (not criticizing his effort, just pointing out that we weren't exactly a blitz-heavy defense this year).

I just keep reading the subtext of these interviews. Pep just wants a contract, right? Come on, if the front office thought there was any chance Peppers would sign a long-term contract, we wouldn't even be discussing this right now.

All this speculation is pointless. only 3 subjects know whats going to happen. Panthers FO, Peppers, and Carey. and then when they make a decision- then we find out. until then all this back and forth means squat.

Speculation is all we have during the offseason. Come on, you know that. If discussing this and other Panthers news is pointless, why do you keep posting thread after thread?

Well I can't really say anything to what you've "read into" (not mocking you) because I've learned to just take things at face value sometimes, but I wouldn't say the articles are very telling. They put a spin on things and you have to have looked at the actual interview and such to get the real story.

This has to be one of the most mis-quoted interviews of all time, probably has something to do with the difficulty Peppers has expressing himself.

He didn't say he no longer wants a long term deal with the Panthers, he said that it was not his preference.

Guess why that's no longer his preference? because behind door # 2 is a single season 20 mill $ payday and behind door # 3 is becoming the highest profile FA on the market in an uncapped year. It would be foolish for him to take the Panthers offer without first testing the market and if they slap the tag on him again than he's going to make more this year than he could make under any contract... it's an no-brainer.

Im talking about this. Im not talking about other stuff. This post says Pep doesn't want to sign a long term deal. and that is pure speculation and almost nonsensical. because he didn't say that at all. At not only was this misquoted completely there is another thread with the EXACT article that was misquoted. i mean come on.

I guess that would make your thoughts speculation as well. Its funny how NFL.com is also reporting the same thing. I guess some of the people on here should do the story on it.
