Tough call. I love both Smitty and Williams, but if we got rid of Smitty, who the hell would we have at WR for Rivers to throw to?

I'd get rid of Williams and put the weight on J-Stew.

Eh, it's all fantasy anyway. Rivers is a bit of a bitch at times and I hope that Matt Moore is the future.

I would trade both for Rivers. Anyone who says they wouldnt is being way to much of a homer.

Dont get me wrong, I love Smitty and Dwill. I have an authentic autographed Steve Smith jersey.

However, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on this deal. You are getting a great, potentially elite QB that is going to be with your team for 10 years. And giving up a receiver with maybe 2 more years left in his prime and a running back with maybe 4 years.

Honestly, I would almost package them both together to get Rivers if he would sign an extension.

Winning a Super Bowl is more important than the Panthers keeping my favorite players. I know what you are thinking... Just because we have Rivers doesn't mean we are going to win the Super Bowl. But having Rivers is going to get us alot closer than having either of the other players.

Anyone who thinks getting a top QB is an automatic ticket to the Super Bowl by itself, regardless of other circumstances, needs to talk to a Bears fan.

Trades should always build your team. That's why you trade depth players (or picks) for need. Otherwise you simply fill one need while creating another.

And to this I know someone will suggest that the RBs have depth. I don't agree. Stewart/Sutton or Stewart/Goodson is not the equal of Williams/Stewart, not by a long shot. The running game is good because of the tandem, not the individuals.

Getting Rivers while weakening the running game and/or giving up the only receiver on the team that opposing defenses have to account for just doesn't make sense.

Truer words have never been spoken. Do we have to keep reminding, how many teams that run more then they pass made it to the Championships games? The Jets. And even they barely made the playoffs.

If you want to succeed in this league in todays NFL you have to find a Franchise QB and build a passing game around him. Who in the NFL has enjoyed the most Prolonged success?

Colts - Manning

Patriots - Brady

Steelers - Big Ben

The Saints just won a Super Bowl by doing it. And yet you wouldn't trade a 27 yo (next season) RB for a great QB who has already proven he is a top 5 or 7 QB over multiple seasons in the NFL?

I agree with all who say it is like cutting off your nose to spite you face with the Smith trade? We have had a time finding a #2 receiver we do not need the headache of having to build receiver core from scratch.

Top QB is more important than running back depth.

Top QB is waaaay harder to find then a good running back.

And it is debatable to how good of a QB Jay Cutler was.

I didn't think much of him when he played for the Broncos. But thats irrelevant.

I guarantee if you asked 32 GM's in this league if they would make these trades that they would do it in a split second.

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
