Deangelo and Smitty are two of my three favorite Panthers but I would trade either for Rivers straight up without question. Rivers is reaching his prime and we would not have to worry about addressing the quarterback position through the draft if Moore happened to not be the quarterback that we hope he will be. Neither of these trades would actually happen because SD would never go for such a deal. I think Panthro's hypothesis is that we overvalue our favorite players.

Trade Smitty for Rivers but leave Moore as the starter. Just turn around and retrade Rivers for two 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder. Draft a 1st round DT and use the other 1st round pick on a WR, either in the draft or trade for Boldin. Get another WR in the 2nd, bring in Breaston or Lance Moore (or both) through free agency. Donate the 3rd round pick to charity because at that point you don't even need it.

I think most people voted and were intending to keep Rivers, which is a bad decision I think.

Why all the love for "great" QB's? Most likely they would come here and people would still be angry when they don't really change much and the Panthers lose because of more fundamental problems.

Smitty is still an elite WR, his stats have been declining due to Jake Delhomme and our running game. Philip Rivers is not a good fit in our offense, he's a guy who needs to throw 35-40 times a game to stay in a rhythm.
