It's official: Sean Payton > John Fox

I've got to be honest.

I don't think Payton is that great of a coach. For the past two years his "gimmicks" has worn hard on saint fans. Saint fans have constantly pissed and moaned about many decisions that have led to saint losses in 07 and 08.

Paytons Coaching, like many coaches, is directly reflected by his QB play. Brees is, if not the best, a top three QB in this league, and payton benefits from his execution and ability to make plays.

The only thing I will give credit to Payton for, in regards to their championship, is the hiring of Greg Williams (great hire whether you like him or not) and his commitment into scaling back his offense a little and focusing on the running game. The running game was just as important into getting them a top seed as was their qb play.

Congrats to the Saints and Payton though. They had a great season.

Greg Williams > Sean Payton, LOL

Payton is an offensive guy - at least he is smart enough to hire a defensive guy and let him do this thing without interfering. There are plenty of coaches whose egos would not allow them to do that. Payton was smart enough to say "I need Greg Williams to win." And he was right

All that being said, the Saints did have the #1 offense in the league again, so it's not like you can give all the credit to Williams either.

Great coaches assemble great staffs.

IMHO John Fox will never win a SuperBowl. I don't care what team he is on. His opportunity came and went in 2004 and the league has passed him, and his 13 plays on offense and his tendency to go into a turtle-shell on defense, by.

One thing is not arguable. Payton has a Lombardi trophy and a SuperBowl ring. John Fox does not. I believe greatness is determined in pro sports by winning the ultimate championship, yes? If that is so, then Payton is a great coach.

Case closed.
