What will happen with Defensive Coordinator Evero? Also Chinn, Matos and Horn ACTIVATED…..

I was just reading the Panthers.com article which revealed that Chinn, Gross-Matos, and Horn will be activated for this weeks game, and in the article it mentions we are 6th in the league in total defense, and 5th in passing defense. What Evero has been able to do with this defense has been absolutely incredible. We have had so many players injured or on IR, that I had to look up who some of the players were at times on the field. This Offseason we obviously will be cleaning house, which is a shame, because we have an amazing DC. What do you think will end up happening to Evero and where do you think he will end up? Coordinator somewhere else or does he land a HC gig?

ARTICLE:

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers got back to a 53-man roster again, and got some familiar faces back on defense.

And adding a first-round pick and a couple of seconds back to the mix this time of year can only help.

The team activated cornerback Jaycee Horn, defensive back Jeremy Chinn, and outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos from injured reserve on Saturday, providing a boost for a defense that's been running on replacements all year.

For Horn, it will be his first game since tearing a hamstring in the opener in Atlanta. Chinn and Gross-Matos have been out since the bye week.

The Panthers are still sixth in the league in total defense, and fifth in passing defense, so adding their top cover player and another pass-rusher is a positive.

Gross-Matos had 2.5 sacks and five quarterback hits in six games, effectively making the transition to a 3-4 defense.

Also Saturday, the team activated defensive end Chris Wormley and guard Justin McCray from the practice squad (standard elevations).

Wormley played in his first game last week after recovering from a torn ACL last season. McCray played in two games here earlier this season, and adds offensive line depth where they've been hammered by injuries this season.

What will he do? Probably continue to drop Burns in coverage.

He was my favorite hire of the offseason but Ive become quite indifferent if he stays or goes. Lot of talk here about the yardage rankings while ignoring we've given up the 3rd most TDs in the league at 35, dead last in the NFL in turnovers and second to last in sacks with 18 (Chicago is last with 17)

This defense is not good. It's honestly well below average. An obvious fluff article from the Panthers website doesn't change that.

Sure he has had a rough go with the combination of injuries and our anemic offense but let's not cherry pick stats to make it seem like he has made chicken salad out of chicken poo... because it's still poo.

This feels like that Rhule year where they were 2nd in yards honestly.

I'm fine with a house cleaning tho I do like the DC. Tabor and Caldwell is going to be interesting sales pitch to a new HC. Not sure how that goes over in negotiations given the situation.

Who expected the defense to be good, switching base defense to the 3-4? With one end there’s a  guy can really only rush the QB  and the other end the guy can stop the run. Maybe. With what we were having to do at LB. Shaq and the secondary casualties immediately.

I think the guy has done a great job. You make him coach or you conditionally wanna make him coach (where he has to like your quarterback plan)? I wouldn’t want to be tied to the previous regime’s mistakes.

That stubbornness about the QB may be a huge problem. If Tepper won’t move off of this kid, we are really stuck.

Even people that like Young have to accept that not every coach would want to accommodate him. So where do you limit the coaching criteria for the best coach? Is the best coach only the coach that wants to work with Bryce Young?

edit: but Evero, as DC? Yeah. Fine with me. I would be good with him as HC except he is where he needs to be right now I think. Skill wise.

I don't like his defense, but he's the least of my worries. Just clean house with the offensive coaches, especially the o-line coach and offensive coordinator.

11 games in and this is the best Campen can do.... bs its the scheme...we either have no talent or Campen is inept...which is it...

Whatever David Tepper says. Our current ST coordinator turned interim HC was one of the few holdovers from the last staff. It's not a coincidence.

Have seen a couple Panther fans asking if they deliberately held the injured guys out longer to help sabotage Reich.

Don't know that I buy that idea, but hey... 😕

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
