iPod Help

I tried updating my iPod tonight right after I updated iTunes. As it was updating, some error message showed up, saying an unknown error has occurred. I decided to try again, but at that moment, the screen on the iPod froze, saying connect it with iTunes. I can cut it off and on, but it'll go back to the same screen. I unplugged it from the computer and plugged it back in, but that didn't work. The same screen remained on the iPod and I can't access it. it won't read on my laptop nor iTunes. Anyone had this happen to them? Any idea how to fix it?

Probably performing a hard reset is your best bet at this point. How you do that depends on the type of ipod you have.

Unless that's when you mean by cutting it off and on. Then you're fuged.

Yeah I have a 2nd generation iPod and have no idea how to do a hard reset (unless that's cutting it off and on). I tried Apple's support site, but the want to charge me for a call.

If it's the touch I think you hold the home button and the sleep button together for like 10 seconds

the classic and other scroll wheel-based ipods you hold menu and play/select together.

iPod Touch. I managed to get in contact with customer support.

Wait, was your error message on the ipod or the computer? I got one on my computer when I updated mine Friday. It worked on the second try though.

Just got off the phone with them. The guy I talked to have no idea what's happening. I sent him some diagnostic information. Hopefully the engineers can get that solved. If not, I'm getting a new iPod.

On the computer, in iTunes. My iPod has been unresponsive since and would not be recognized under iTunes or on the actual PC

I've been searching around and it seems it's not uncommon to get an error message when updating to 3.1.3. Some have your problem even. Nothing on how to fix it though :/

Maybe their engineer team can come up with a fix.....or a new iPod touch for me

seem like i got it fixed....was able to use someone else's computer to reset it. apparently everything is working right, but I still want to know what went wrong with it....
