Bunch of ignorance in this thread, and that's sad.

Makes honkies feel insecure to see a black man succeed far past their own capabilities.

So I guess it is OK for a black person to call a white person a ****** on here?....if this had gone the other way, there would have been hell to pay from some posters.

This. I'm pretty sure ****** is a racist term. Sounds like you have problems, African American. You're just another "Me vs. The World" black guy we've all come to love.

****** is a very racist term....same effect as calling an African American a ****** (which I would never do).

I am not calling Johnson racist for focusing on having a high % of minorities in his organization. I don't really have an issue with it.

I'm pretty sure I'm Scotch-German with a little bit of Cherokee.

LOL

Cool with me if you guys think I'm a brother tho.

So now we get to another key issue. You guys automatically assumed I was black because I wouldn't beat up Bob Johnson with you.

Stay classy, crakaz.

Ps. Honky is about as racist to me as Thug.

Sounds like you're American to me. Just because your Scotish great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather banged a German you think you are Scotish and German now.

You've been holding on to that one for awhile huh? I'm pretty sure they thought you were black because you called white's honky's not because you were backing Bob.

You're right. That heritage had no hand in shaping who I am through family values that have been handed down.

The fact that I'm so pale I glow and I have a red beard will never change the fact that I'm a proud black man.

I'm glad Bob brought in Bickerstaff to help the franchise in its earliest years.

I'm glad Bob realized the Bobcats Sports Network was a bad idea, and got rid of it along with the people that told him it was a good idea.

I'm glad he finally got Jordan involved in North Carolina professional sports.

I'm glad he got out of that horrible deal with Time Warner by sacrificing the arena's naming rights.

Every single bad move he's made, he's fixed it rather quickly.

Thank you Bob Johnson for not:

Shipping out every good player we've ever had once they were due a payday.

Being involved in scandals with strippers.

Holding the team hostage for a new arena.

The man has overseen the building of a team of athletes that play hard and mostly keep their noses clean off the court and has been providing job opportunities for minorities and young adults.

Guess he should do some shuckin' n jivin' for the good ol' boys too.

Oh yeah, they call that shuck n jive "attending the games so I can stare at the owner".

Eh, I think he's done a pretty decent job. The hate from the city isn't cause he's black though, I think it's mainly for the disgust for the Hornet's ownership there at the end (which isn't fair). The Bobcats put on a great show, a great family show. You don't get that very often. Ticket prices are great, concessions are retarded (as anywhere so what can you do), and I never leave feeling ripped off (even if we lose and give up a 15 point lead haha).

Bickerstaff and Vincent were horrible choices though, but finally we got Larry Brown. I think sometimes people group us with the Hornets, but we've only been around a handful of years. We're doing pretty good, and if we can work out some contracts etc, we'll be fine.

However, KT, you knew this thread was going to turn this way when you brought up "the first black owner" etc. Let's just talk about his choices and failures in regards to basketball.

I did not assume you were black....I just made a comment that ****** was just as racist and offensive as many other words used as racial insults.

I was not supporting or bashing Johnson. I think he has done an OK job with the Bobcats....not great, but not bad either. He walked into Charlotte at a disadvantage. That disadvantage was that many Charlotteans has a very bitter taste in their mouths with all of the crap that Shinn pulled and with the Hornets leaving town. He had to win back a fanbase that supported the Hornets with a passion.

Bickerstaff was a good coach. He got the best out of what he had. It's not like he had a playoff team but they kept games close and always worked hard. Getting rid of him was a bad move. But it worked out with LB.

For some, there truly are racial motivations. White folks say some funny things when they don't think there's any minorities around to hear it. But that's not a reflection of Charlotte, that's anywhere.

The vast majority was bitterness over the Hornets. I embraced the Bobcats from day 1. They're my home team. I'm glad Johnson got the bid over Bird and Belk. But I wasn't thrilled because I knew it was too soon. Its still too soon. I don't think the region wanted the NBA back in town, or even missed it that much, which you can all lay at the feet of George Shinn.

The NBA brought a team back to Charlotte too soon, but is that Bob's fault? Nah, he's just getting the flack for it.

But when people come in here flinging generalizations like "worst owner in the league" and "there are too many colored folks working at the arena" or "I can't stand that hippity hop music"...

Well.

I know what the ulterior meaning is behind all of that jibber jabber.

Me, I just don't like pop music, and I hate the music that's played at Bobcats games and Panthers games, (panthers probably being the worse of the two) but its a really silly raisin not to go to the games and support the local team.

The problem with the Bobcats have been that they were an expansion team with all the ups and downs replacing a playoff team which is where the Hornets were when they left. People put up with the Hornet's bad years and didn't want to do it again. It would be like replacing the Panthers with an expansion team. People wouldn't be happy if it took 5 years to reach the playoffs. And without PSLs the stadium would be rather empty. That is what happened with the Bobcats. They don't even have the benefit of tailgating or a gameday experience.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
