Smith and Mawae said that if next season goes forward with no salary cap, it would be highly unlikely to have a new CBA with a cap reinstated.

“Virtually impossible,” Smith said.

“A very difficult task,” Mawae said.

Time to remove any denial from our minds. Whether there is a lockout or not, if 2010 goes uncapped, chances are very high there will never be a cap again. NFL will become MLB. Dallas will become the Yankees. The Redskins will become the Red Sox and Jacksonville will become the Royals.

There are rules in place to prevent things like that from happening. For a while I agreed that if a cap was removed then teams like Dallas/Redskins would run the league, but meh.

1) If you make it past the 1st round of playoffs you can't get a high value free agent unless you lose a high value player to free agency.

2) Even with an insanely stacked team the past 5 years Dallas has managed to do jack poo.

3) Carolina is on the upper end when it comes to overall value of the team(correct me if I'm wrong, not 100% sure on this.)

I'm not too worried.

That is only in 2010. After that a new CBA will have to be created with new rules and apparently the union will not come to the table if a salary cap is part of the negotiations.

Goodell today saud a deal would get done but it won't be soon (read uncapped 2010) but it will get done.

This is all posturing and a result of frustration that the players are being asked to take less of a percentage from 60% back to 55%. The owners are not giving in. Issues like a rookie cap, going to 18 games etc are all on the table and part of the solution. I would expect we won't get a solution until this time next year.

And I believe we will definitely have a cap once players find out that a number of teams are going to be dumping salaries now that there isn't a floor either. Everyone is trying to save money which is why we haven't tried to sign Peppers. A cap insures they spend a certain amount as well as not go beyond a certain ceiling.

Man that sucks. If the NFL is uncapped, I doubt I will continue to watch for very long because like you said, The REdskins and Cowboys will become the Yankees and Sox, and we will become the Marlins...god dammit, these people make millions each year, the level of greed is atrocious.

The Marlins have won 2 championships, though. I mean, we'd probably only make the playoffs 2 to 3 times in a decade(like the Marlins), but when we go we'd be guarenteed to win it all. lol.

But yea, I hope they get something done. I need football and college football around here sucks to watch(except Wake Football, lol).
