Tom Talks: Adults shouldn't ask for autographs

As a 40 year-old man, do I really need a 25 year-old football player's autograph to validate me in any way? Or will I really get any enjoyment in it? Does it prove some kind of man crush? Do I have to blush when I get the autograph or say, "Wow thanks Mr.! You've made my day!!!!"

Sorry, it's just not for me. I enjoy watching the games and get a rush out of some of the individual and team performances. I like cheering for my team. I'll also don a jersey now and then to show my allegiance. But I just can't ask (and let's face it, some folks beg) another grown man to sign a card or photo for me to put on my mantle.

One man's validation is another man's donning of a jersey. Big deal.

I remember when i was a really young kid. A few times i went up to players with a brochure to sign and i didn't have a marker. I remember going up to players as they were leaving and stuff. I know it might seem like the obvious right thing to do, but it's still really nice of them to all be so patient. I never got turned down or pushed aside. I was REALLY young like 6 years old though.

So yeah while they face the barrage of fans it's probably annoying to do the adults.

Still though he's being too high and mighty. I would feel akward now asking for an autograph but a lot of people want something to bring back memories 20-30 years from now. He turns out a douchey article once in a while and this is a good example.
