Tom Talks: Adults shouldn't ask for autographs

I have sent cards to Jake Delhomme, Wesley Walls, Bernie Bickerstaff, Tyrone "Mugsy" Bogues, Nick Goins and they have all signed them and returned them to me. (I always include an envelop for them to do so.) In my letter to them, I always point out my Carolina Panthers website that I proudly display their signed cards.

I have sent cards to Julius Peppers, Rodney Peete and a few others that I have never seen again.

I think if you are a fan, it's alright to get their autograph as long as you use good sense in doing it.

My co-worker was Peppers real estate agent. The closing lawyer brought a poster and a couple of football cards to the closing. Peppers was really annoyed, but he signed anyway.

Jeff Gordon and his Family came into Phil Aull Studios to have their Christmas pictures done several years ago. My Sister-in-law photographed Jeff & Brooke's Wedding. Phil had told everyone not to ask for an autograph, but I had given Joanna a few things for him to sign. He happily signed them for her. One of them, he told her that He wished he had. It was a beautiful limited edition pen & ink drawing of his Monte Carlo that he won this first Championship with.

uh because to buy a jersey you don't shoulder a bunch of kids out of the way and shove a piece of paper into a grown man's face begging him to write his name on it just a thought maybe idunno

The solution is to bring kids with you to autograph sessions and get two signatures, one for him or her and one for you. If you don't have a child of your own, you can find a nephew, neighbor's kid or the like to take with you. Last year I helped a little guy who was behind a bunch of adults by lifting him up and over to where he could get Smith's signature. He and his dad were thrilled. It can be a win-win situation. I always take my 10 year old for signatures. He gets them much easier than I could.

Perhaps Tom should stop writing fluff, and get over this totally irrelevant topic...

This has to be the worst take I've ever read.. He makes it sound like people are going to the employee of the month and asking for an autograph.. And perhaps baseball cards are for kids only as well. (even though they have declined tremendously over the years, the tradition still remains..)

How many players do paid signings? I have always wanted to get a generic panthers jersey to collect autos from panthers past, present, and future. Something to frame and display in the game room. I would prefer to pay a few $ for a good Auto/photo then get one for free with the player thinking that you were going to turn around and sell it.

Something about seeing the grown men (and women) hoping beyond hope to get an autograph at training camp just seemed utterly pathetic. Just my take on it
