Will Someone Actually Be Fired on Monday?

If we bring Fitt/Frank back next season I'm officially no longer a Panthers fan.

ESPN was literally laughing at our situation with Bryce. They said he has nothing around him and they literally feel sorry for the kid.

We had a good thing going with Wilks and Darnold and Tepper did a 360 and went with Frank and Young. In the process he traded away our best offensive weapon and future picks.

Now we have a QB who don't belongs and a ton of holes to fill on both sides of the ball.

Fug you Tepper!

I thought at the time that not hiring Wilks full time was the correct decision because I felt we needed an offensive-minded head coach to develop whatever QB we would be drafting.

That said, Frank Reich was nowhere on my list of preferred candidates. He may come from an offensive background, but he coaches like Jeff Fisher or John Fox. I wanted Shane Steichen, Brian Johnson, or Kellen Moore. I would also have preferred a young defensive coach like DeMeco Ryans or Ejiro Evero to Reich.

It was so obvious at the time that Reich was not the answer. I thought bringing in a good staff might make up for Reich's problems on some level, and certainly Evero has been a good hire on defense, but nothing about what we've done on offense has worked. It's been the complete opposite of what hiring an offensive-minded head coach should be.

I’m standing on what I was told back in the spring and what I shared here.

Reich wanted Carr, the front office was not interested but met with him out of respect for their new HC.

Frank wanted Stroud or Richardson; Fitterer and his team wanted Bryce Young.

The impression I have been given is Bryce Young was a Scott Fitterer pick.

Scott convinced David Tepper that he was the right guy. Frank being new and timid probably didn’t push back on it and caved.

I have zero doubt Fitt wanted Young.  His press conference speeches all hinted towards it plus the whole Russ Wilson in Seattle thing.  I think Frank liked most of the top 3 and Young advertised as the most "pro ready" probably made it easy for him to go with Young.  I don't believe Frank is good at developing QBs as he never really has.  This is probably why he wanted Carr originally.

I would add, I always felt Tepper’s voiced reasoning for why Bryce was their pick…..felt like GM soundbites.

the whole we can build a cheap offense and put it all in the defense narrative.

Really surprised at 1-9 that a position coach is not at least being fired

Especially when you take into account that the performances in every game have been bad/very bad. There's not one thing where you can say it's worth letting it play out because we've seen glimpes of potential.

    • Yep, even if you put aside any discussion about what you think about him as a player or how good he'll be, the one thing that is a 100% certainty is that he's going to make some plays that just drop your jaw and question how he did what we just saw. This is interesting as it was something I'd never even thought/heard of until he was walking on stage after we took him.  One of the analysts on NFL Network brought it up saying something like, "I don't agree with this idea, but I know a lot of college coaches tell the star WRs to purposefully take plays off when they know it's not coming to them" It was interesting because the way he said it, almost sounded like he's heard that it was something the Arizona coaches would tell T-Mac to do.  Which on a team like ours last year, actually makes a ton of sense, because we had NOBODY else who the defense had to worry about.  So instead of taking him off the field to give him a breather, just throw him out there on the far side of the field as a dummy to keep the defense's attention and then run a play in the other direction. You're right, he isn't "as quick" as Evans, because he's quicker.  Sure, Evans does use his body better than T-Mac does, but T-Mac is a better athlete with more wiggle to his game and better at making a defender miss whereas Evans is just more likely to run through you. And your edit here is basically just an add on to my above comment, as personally, I've used the AJ Green comp for him ever since his first game for us at Arizona, it was always who I saw in his game.  He has that fluidity that Green had to him, and at their size it stands out. Actually saw another comp last night that I hadn't seen before, and while I'll admit it's been YEARS since I've seen any film of him, my immediate reaction was, "oh wow, that might be a real solid comp for style of play" And that was of Plaxico Burress. I'd like to see T-Mac have a better overall career than Plax had (especially off the field), but from what I remember about his game, the comp for body/style of play actually seems pretty solid
    • Dan signed up shortly before he opened the pizza place, kind of did a little promotion on here to get panther fans to stop by. Several huddlers reported back to say they met Dan at the restaurant, and that he would hang out and talk football and that the food was good. (I thought it was average and kinda overpriced, he wasn’t there when I went). Since his interactions were going positively, he would post from time to time on topics and give a bit of his insight. Problem is it that was around 2009, the year after Jake melted down with the 6 TO game in the playoffs, and basically started the season with similar performances. Everyone was livid that Jake got an extension that offseason and the consensus of the fans was that it was time to see what Matt Moore had. Dan in one of the threads (and in an Interview on 610) said that what he had heard from the team is that Moore was struggling with the playbook and that why he wasn’t starting. People got mad about that and started saying things like oh that’s your concussions talking…and unsurprisingly he left (but without any sort of announcement, he just stopped posting). He probably wasn’t here for more than a month or two tops, the restaurant closed that following offseason.   Dragging the pizza joint didn’t really happen to my recollection until it was announced that he was the new GM and a few of the crazies (OP of this thread among them) equated his restaurant not succeeding to not being fit to be in charge of football operations. You know, typical huddle stuff.
