I mean most NC fans aren't Panthers fans. Panthers were an expansion team most people in NC older than 40 probably already had a team before the Panthers came around.

If they were consistent winners these fans would have jumped on board.  In the 2015 and 2003 I knew people in NC that root for others teams were rocking panthers gear those years

The Maryland area though had the colts before hand so the NFL was already ingrained in the area. Plus prior to I would say 1998 the NCAA was king of the south and NFL then North so it’s just the market.

If the Panthers had multiple rings and had winning seasons almost every year the Carolinas would have a similar fanbase.

I would be there as I am a Panther fan.. … I still find it funny during the LA Chargers vs Steelers game it’s the same,,more Steelers fans than Chargers , I get it it Ian not dumb.. all transits in LA!!! Well that’s Charlotte is

People have been moving out of the RustBelt for decades.  They move to NC, FL, CA, GA.

And most of the older NFL franchises with history come from the North.

Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Green Bay, Cleveland, Detroit, New York, New England, Cincinnati.

People that live in Charlotte are mostly from the North.

It’s a melting-pot city, people move to a better city and then root for their hometown team over the local team.

Browns fans will fill BOA even when they suck, but they sure ain’t moving back to Cleveland. They love Charlotte.

And Pittsburgh has more fans in other cities than they do in Pittsburgh.  They have the great history and love their franchise…but they got the hell outta Pittsburgh a LONG time ago.  That’s why they’re everywhere.  Charlotte is loaded with them.
