[GRAPH] Bryce's accuracy + separation for WRs

The problem in these discourses seem to be that people either overstate the implications of this data or argue that they are 100% meaningless. The truth is obviously somewhere in between. This graph says 2 things: Bryce Young throws to open receivers less than any other QB in the league, but when he does, the throw tends to be accurate. That doesn't mean he's an elite qb, it just means what it means. It clearly beats the alternative that he tends to misfire wildly even when the receiver is open. If so, this would be a lost cause. But at least now you say, "Let's at least try to get him a receiver or two with a proven track record of getting separation." It's still possible we do that and he doesn't process the field appropriately, doesn't spot them or throws it too late after they're covered. But at the very least, we have to try so we know for sure if Bryce can ever be the guy.

Finally, those trying to argue the fact that this graph doesn't correlate to who is great or terrible, or for instance to the person saying Bryce is close to Herbert on the graph and Herbert is way better. Of course; the elite qbs aren't the ones that only make throws when receivers are wide open. They are the ones that can make something out of nothing. Herbert is doing a ton more with the 65% of throws the receiver is not open than Bryce is doing with his 75%. So I agree that this is not a graph of eliteness. But that doesn't mean it's meaningless. Bryce may never be a top 10 qb but if he stays a hyperaccurate qb when receivers are open, we have to potential to be a successful team if we can get those receivers open more often.

These charts can be misleading

There are numerous examples where Bryce isn’t pulling the trigger on throws with guys open

His slow processing time is definitely attributing to some of the separation issues on these graphs

You're right but you're wrong at the same time. His processing time isn't the issue. His issue is his second guessing. He does process the fastest of all rookie QB's. But with the precedent that has been set by the shitty O-line and slow WR's he does not trust his guy and throw that way because he has a 300 pound man breathing down his neck, or thinks there is one there, or like i said second guesses the wr a lot. TMJ has been open a lot in these past couple of games but you know what TMJ has done a lot too? Drop balls. A lot of these guys have done that. You can't tell me that doesn't affect a QB to the decision making. SO again, you're not wrong with your assessment, you're just wrong in the root cause. Bryce Young does NOT have a slow processing time.

You have to admit that chart is pretty stupid

I already said the accuracy part needs to look at distance because Young should lead it with his low YPA. The lack of separation is pretty obvious to most of us that are watching it, but that’s the most telling part of the chart. People that love Bryce will point to it, people that don’t will critique it just like any chart/data.

That fan is a hater by calling Bryce out for having slow processing time when no one other QB believes it. Ask CJ that and he would say you no nothing if he even bother to acknowledge you. No one loses their processing ability from earlier in the year up to week 1. Timing might be off but not their mental ability to process data on the field and react immediately on the best choice available at that moment. It is 2nd to none. Let's give him 3 season to the doubters wrong. The Jets gave Sam D 3 season before they moved on yet most here wanted him cause of his cannon arm regardless of this well known flaw....

You are saying Bryce Young’s processing ability in the NFL is second to none?

Even with those skewing it to a degree, this is pretty terrible data. I’d say both correlate too. If WRs aren’t separating and dropping passes with CBs sitting on predictable routes then rookie QBs are going to get more hesitant to throw the ball. His footwork isn’t going to get better either until we fix the interior of the OL. We need a new center and depth for when BC returns. BC’s injury killed our OL.

My guess is the OL would have still struggled even with BC. This scheme just isn't suited to most of these guys.

Blackshear needs to play more. He's the best receiving back on the team, and Bryce needs a reliable check down.

Wide receivers don't seem to understand the concept of "hot". I don't think they even look at what the defense is doing post snap - just out there running routes that don't match the defensive call or urgency. That's coaching.

He is 2nd to none out of his QB class and is MUCH faster than many vets in the NFL with years of experience already. It doesn't matter cause you can either process fast under pressure or you can't. Sam D is still passing to ghost under pressure cause his processing speed is no different than someone on quaaludes.

This kind of representation is a very good way to prove a point that might not be there. If you show the entire axle 0 to 100% you can see that the difference between worst and first is surprisingly small.

Just check the raw numbers, even for the fastest and very well scheme Miami offense 6 throws in 10 is NOT open.

Yes our receivers are awful, but if you cannot hack throwing mediocre receivers open you will not have success in this league.

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
