Agents didn't hope around a lot normally is how I understood it.

But when they did take over a body, it killed the person they took over.

Until Agent Smith went all crazy and never gave up the bodies, I don't think just inhabiting them killed them. They were just carriers for a bit, unless they happened to die then that person died (the whole mind can't live without the body crap).

Reminds me what crap the Matrix devolved into after a pretty cool action flick the first go around.
