Who are David Tepper’s football mentors or influences?

I’m sure many of you have watched a lot more videos of David Tepper than I have. Has he ever divulged who (if anyone) his mentors or influences are when he became a new NFL owner? Who does he lean on or confide in for advice and guidance?

Tepper was sold to the fans as a “new breed” of owner who was going to do things differently and shake up the NFL world. And he has, to his credit, been true to his word. The contract he gave to Matt Rhule completely reshaped the salary structure for new head coaches given the ridiculous contract Tepper gave Rhule. The problem has been that nothing he has done has made the team better. Nothing.

So my question is, if Mr. Tepper insists on continuing to involve himself in the decisions of the team on the field, how is he getting better? What are his resources to improve his own performance? The owner has no one to answer to aside from the fanbase not showing up or paying to see the games. But he’s fortunate that visiting fans are so abundant in Charlotte that the stadium will almost always be full either way. So unfortunately the fans can’t really hold him accountable that way either.

If he’s mentioned anyone, literally anyone, who he has a relationship with as a mentor to improve his NFL ownership, I’d be curious to know who it was.

Because to me as a fan, if the owner is going to be going out to interview the coaches, and be involved in the decisions of the potential draft picks, and it keeps failing, he’d better show the fanbase how he’s going to get better at his job or get out of the way. Otherwise it’s just insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the results to change.

Yep. I’m not saying Polian can’t offer some good advice on a few things, but my God every single roster move and coaching move has been underwhelming and at times awful.

Seriously. Even Vonn Bell has been underwhelming.  Every single move this past offseason looks like a miss. Mingo, DJJ, Zavala, that FSU S, Miles Sanders, Chark, it's endless.

BP had good moments in his career but I'm pretty sure he even acknowledges he's a bit past the times when it comes to eval.  He probably offers good insight when it comes to operational stuff and how to deal with stuff situationally, but I doubt he's offered player intel.  We've got an entire scouting dept. for that.

    • If you think Smith's hating on McMillian or tall recievers you didn't watch the video. He may have been guilty of that in the past but he says outright that his problem is people see a tall reciever and tend to overlook everything else about him. He was complimentary and believes the guy will pan out. His only real criticism was comparing Tetairoa to himself actually, saying like he felt like he took plays off when he wasn't the primary target.
    • I loved this draft. I think we have 3 starters out our first three picks. Maybe they take a year to develop but I don’t see them taking long.    I think Etiene is going to be a good back up. He’s only 20 so he has a lot to improve on.  I think we will see him be used on special teams this year. He won’t get many reps unless an injury happens because we got two 1,000 yard rb in front of him. I could see Ransom starting but I think he will probably be a back up, maybe playing special teams? I think hes probably got the lowest ceiling of all our drafted players. Cam Jackson will be a back up, probably not a lot of snaps this year. Could end up being a solid player for us.   I love the Mitchell Evans pick. He’s got potential to be our top TE. He had two different injuries that set him back in college but I think if he was healthy he would have been one of the top TE in the draft. I have even more faith in him because ND makes great tight ends. I don’t know if he will play much this year unless an injury happens though. Probably just a blocking TE this year.
