Where I'm at midseason

I thought he looked great against Houston. Commanded the offense, made some damn good throws spinning out of trouble or hitting guys in stride, and made the plays to win. Yesterday was the first "what the hell was that, Bryce?" game. Wonder if he'll bounce back.

You could make a pretty good argument that he looked decent yesterday...minus a couple of absolute killer plays.

But then you can't rightly take those plays out of the equation, so...

When did the rumors about CJ Stroud and Reich come about? I distinctly remember articles where Reich and Fitt were both on Young as the top and I do recall hearing that while Reich liked Young the best, he also liked Richardson a lot before the draft. I remember this because it seemed like Stroud was out of the equation really early whether or not McCown wanted to play hoops with him. It seems to me that Reich preferring Stroud didn’t happen until well into the season after Young was meh, Richardson got hurt the first time and Stroud had a few great games, when the seats starting getting warm.

I truly don’t think Tepper forced Young on everybody. His point guard quotes came a couple months after Brown’s point guard mentions and as you said, Fitt in the draft process mentioning they had already zeroed in on Young a year before the draft and Fitt and Reich crowed about how sync they were at the start and end of their decisions again with no mention of Tepper at that point. People jumped on Tepper’s post draft interview explaining the choice of Young and the trading of Moore, which IMHO was spitting back out the reasonings Fitt and Co. gave him. Even the meetings with Frank were no big deal to me because that to me was a come to Jesus of why are we worse than Rhule and Wilks when he was promised a contender now that we had our QB.

That said, I don’t want Tepper making any future decisions either. Between Hurney staying, Rhule and Fitt hiring and Fitt staying, he’s bungled they key calls. If he’s helped out on personnel decisions, well he’s sucked there too.

Exactly, people is making the Reich wanted Stroud stuff up because of their feelings for Stroud. Reich walked his ass in Fitt office and said he agree on Bryce. Later he said Richardson was his next pick a QB. Now other people in the organization could have wanted Stroud, but the decision is over and we got to move in the direction we choose.

I think McCown definitely wanted Stroud and I can definitely see an argument for Reich wanting Stroud as well. For starters, a typical Reich QB looks like C.J. Stroud.

And if the above is the case then what really worries me is how much can McCown and Reich do before exasperation kicks in? Reich already looks worn out.

Being a football coach is still a job and just like other jobs, how much can you really give in a situation that is totally fuged especially when you know that it could have been different if the organization followed your guidance.

I think Reich will 'retire' in the offseason with a nice pay off and an NDA from Tepper.

Everybody else did too, and largely because they knew it wasn't a real option.

not true at all and the fact that you keep saying doesnt make it true, teams were still sour on the watson contract and the owners wanted no part in giving jackson a similar deal.  It was well documented at the time.  Saying the ravens wanted other teams to negotiate a contract for them to only match it makes literally no sense especially since the eventually signed him

O can't get there without knowing for certain where Tepper stood in this. If he's meddling, he's got no business firing anybody,

But even if he didn't, I have so little trust in him that I wouldn't want him making so much as one more decision.

When your the boss, there's is no moral equivalency.  If the product is suffering where the head man had a major role in it, he's not going to fire himself, so he'll find a lackey.  The terms 'fall guy' and 'scapegoat' exist for a reason.

I wouldn't go that far on either the franchise or Young.

It's one thing to say Stroud might be better, another thing entirely to say Young is bad.

Young still has plenty of strengths that can be built on.

I agree and I am over-reacting but are you going to disagree that Bryce is limited at the NFL level? Because that's all I'm saying. He can work around his deficiencies, and the Panthers can get better, NFL teams can turn it around in a hurry because it's happened quite a lot. But are you expecting that to happen here? Under this ownership? With this head coach? With this rookie QB? With no 1st round pick next year? That's the real problem I'm having with all of this, it's based on what we know right here right now. It's tough!

Still going to tune in a little and watch, because at the end of the day Bryce intrigues me and I want to watch him grow. But we got to get something here and there, not what we saw yesterday against the worst defense in the league right now. Outside of Bryce, it appears we can't draft or develop talent at all, and I've always viewed that when a team cannot draft or develop any talent, then that always hits said team very hard in the following 2-3 years.

Look at our draft return this year right now. Early returns are absolutely brutal right now, room to improve everywhere, but brutal right now. Mingo had 1 catch yesterday for 5 yards against the worst defense in the league. Downs, who we would've taken in the 2nd round if we had a freaking fan vote online for it (we should try that, would be fun as hell), is an immediate impact starter in the NFL. These kinds of misses are going to bite us these next 2-3 years before they're sadly released into the waiver wire void where all draft busts go.

Fixes I'd do, time to focus on beefing up the line inside out RIGHT NOW. Cut your losses on Ickey at LT and move him to LG where he belongs, let him build a rapport with Bozeman and keep the right side intact. We actually have okay depth at the inside spots if we do that. Run whoever at LT and let it ride from there, we've got to turn back to a bull rushing team the rest of the year.

Get Laviska back in there asap when he returns, screens all day to him. Let Mingo continue to develop, but test his butt on hard routes and find out if he's a true 1 sooner rather than later. Get Tremble more looks since he can block and catch a little, and keep doing your thing until the season ends.

Yeah you like losing.

All aboard the Frank train! Guy is worse than Rhule if we being honest. Just because he's quiet doesn't mean I can't call him what he is a bad coach.

I didn't advocate for sticking with Ron.   I'm just acknowledging Wilks is essentially Ron (which is what YOU are advocating for).

I've been consistent.  For YEARS.  We need young offensive minds.  That's what I wanted post Ron Rivera.  That's who I want to be hired.   Which we haven't done.

and post Ron we have hired a fraudulent defensive college coach and an old dinosaur retread HC who surrounded himself with older dinosaurs to oversee things.

He looked decent dumping the ball off underneath - besides the 3 back breaking INTs of course.

The question is self-awareness.

Bad bosses tend not to know they're bad bosses.

I missed a lot of the Houston game so couldn't comment on that. Bryce is a rookie who's allowed to have bad games, he will bounce back! But I want the confident version of him out there testing his limits, not the scared indecisive guy.

I felt like, mechanically, he was off. Decision-making was way off and his accuracy wasn't there, nor was his confidence. I liked his willingness to scramble and run for first downs -- he's gonna have to do that more often because it adds a much-needed wrinkle. He's better at it than he seems to think. I don't subscribe to the "noodle arm" BS because he's fit throws into tight windows (Thielen, 4th and 2, comes to mind) but the decision-making has to be better and sadly, the line and WRs need to give him more help than they're capable of providing.

I hope your right

He's already stepped back from calling plays (something he clearly didn't want to do) and he looks completely disengaged on the sidelines.

I suspect he wanted Stroud (or Richardson) and was overruled. He wants no part of this dumpster fire, that much is clear - he'll be off in January.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
