Shefter has literally zero evidence on anything, it's just speculation. Example:

Hey guys, Darelle Revis hasn't signed a contract extension for the Jets, and will become a free agent in 2011. Mounting evidence(I talked to a friend who said he's a cousin of a source close to the Jets organization) proves that he will be let go by the jets.

Your kidding right. That makes no friggin sense. Haynesworth couldn't be tagged because in order to get him to sign the tag the previous year they had to include it in the contract that they could not do the same last year. Had nothing to do with the probowl.

How many guys have been tagged after making the Probowl? Idiot Falcon fans, Pep even made the Probowl last year and was tagged. This is about as brillant as the many out there that think tagged players can't be traded.

Wish it was just that easy but it's not. Lots of variables to take into consideration. Unfortunately we as fans, don't know all the facts and will never know. The NFL and their contracts, tags, restrictions, free agencies, tec... is really way over anyone of our heads. Every deal is different based on how their current contract is structured.

If he knew a legitimate source he'd name them. Panthers aren't an organization to leak information. Until they can actually drop a name that matters besides "a source close to the Panthers organization" it will always be speculation. Simple as that.

I think it's that they don't want to set the market for him. Teams weren't beating down his agent door to sign him last year. If Carolina puts, lets say last years offer up, it may be far and above what the other teams would have offered. If they let it play out, they may still be able to match or exceed the offer because they were willing to make him the highest paid anyway. If they franchise him, then they are locked in to his 20 mill and probably won't be as active in FA (like last year). Not because of salary cap, but probably because JR is not giving the team an open checkbook. Plus salary concerns after collective bargaining makes it unwise to go crazy on FA unless you have some idea how the salary stuctures are going to end up.

My only fear of Peppers going to ATL is this:

Dude can dominate when he wants to. If he plays in the NFC South, I promise you that for the two games a year against us, especially in Charlotte, he will show up in a major way. He may disappear for his team for the next 4-5 games, but against us he will have 3-4 sacks plus knockdowns per game. He just seems like he has a neener-neener-neener look what you're missing out on sort of temperament to me. Of course that is just speculation, but I can tell you that watching Julius Peppers sack a Panthers QB time after time will really piss me off.

Unless it's Jake. Then I'm sure I'll at least chuckle a little at first.

I have no idea why the front office is boggling this or if Pepper's agent is full of b.s. regarding the "silent treatment" via the Panthers. It just doesn't make sense. Why put that much stock (16 mil) into Peppers if you think you're not going to get more than one flippin' year from him. I understand the FO was under the impression last season that we'd have another strong playoff run, but sheesh. This just isn't logical.

As long as he isn't in the NFC South, I don't care. Let the traitor/sissy leave. He was never a leader. I just wish the Panthers could get some compensation for him. Heck, even if it's a paltry late 2nd round pick. ANYTHING. I despise it when teams pay millions upon millions to a player, he does basically nothing FOR the team, and then leaves without so much as a "Hey, thanks for all you've done for me."

Peppers to the AFC, please. Knowing him, if he walks, he'll try and hit the NFC South somewhere or to some team we despise (Cowboys, Patriots, Eagles)

If thats the case I would franchise him again just to keep him away from Atlanta. You don't want to have to face him 2 times next year.
