Lol, u guys dont see the genius and win that is possible with this. Like someone else said, they are going to get ALL 31 teams hyped up about this, slap that motha fugin franchise tag on him, and be like "GOTCHA BITCH" to the rest of the NFL when they try not to give us proper trade value for a player that has said he will sign ANYWHERE!

Just read on that Observer article about it that Schefter had reported The Big Cat told an unnamed source that the Panthers were preparing to let Pep walk in free agency, or something like that...

If Big Cat said this, then it's over. Not only does this show how inept our FO is, it also shows how unprofessional they are and why they should be standing in an unemployment line.

You haven't even contacted him to gauge his asking price? He even made it clear that he was happy with the direction of the team and the defense's performance and was open to coming back... Yet, the FO hasn't even contacted him. Not only that, they promised to contact him, and didn't anyway. Way to be professional.

I just don't believe they would let him walk with no compensation. I don't care if we settled for a 3rd rounder if all they want to do is get his salary off the books, at least get something for him.

I felt kind of betrayed with the way he went about things last year, but I know it's a business. But, I also said I could see where he was coming from when you got dickheads like Hurney and Fox running the show. I'd want out too. Let's see how our DL looks next year when every game each guy on the front 4 will be easily blocked with a single blocker. This is ridiculous.

If you're believing a report that Richardson has said that Peppers will be allowed to walk this year, how can you not believe that he was involved in the decisions to tag him last year? You criticize Fox & Hurney big time while reporting about Jerry's statements. Why the free pass for the big guy? He's in this up to the neck.

Honest question... can we tag him and trade him for anything? Like one second round pick? That would be better than letting him walk for nothing wouldn't it?

If we tag him and a team signs him to an offer, they owe us 2 1st round picks unless they've negotiated other compensation. If we decided to match the offer, they would owe us nothing but we'd still have Peppers.

Doubt it.

If there turns out to be no cap this year, then the best structure for a Peppers contract would be to load as much as you could afford in this year's salary. That would give him his money without killing the cap, should it come back, for years. If there is a cap, obviously, more conventional contract structures will be needed. Jerry is involved in the negotiating on the CBA. As soon as he's confident which way the negotiations are headed, I expect something to start with Peppers.

I am looking forward to seeing CJ line up as the starting RE next year. I really think CJ could put up 8+ sacks and be a dominant player in run D.

At this point, I think I would rather have CJ starting, 20+ mil in salary saved, and the 3rd round compensatory pick that I think the Panthers would get if he walks than to tie up 15 mil a year on a player longterm, especially when we have no idea what the salary cap could be in future years.

Someone will pay Pep a bunch of money next year but I doubt he will be worth it.

He's a good example of what's wrong in the NFL today. Every year someone signs an ungodly contract then plays like a mortal or gets hurt or both leaving he team crippled. The next year others get in line for the big payday. It has to be controlled. No business can consistently pay their employee's more than they are worth. Most of the owners see that. A couple have so much money they think they can buy a ring and it's spoiling it for the rest. I think Pep would sign with us long term but it will cost dearly. He has no leadership qualities worth mentioning and is controlled a lot of games by just one man so unless he picks up his game and has a few monster years he's simply not worth the money he will demand.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the league thinks he's worth.

Looks like this will be the 2nd year in a row that our FO fails hard...My goodness, what kind of BS are we pulling? I see alot of people are underrating Peppers...for all his faults, he is STILL an all-pro DE...top 3 at his position. Letting Peppers go free has to be one of the biggest jokes out there. We need to trade him. The fact that we haven't contact him....wow, wtf JR?!?

Well...I had a theory that JR was basically "throwing away" this upcoming season in order to save money among other things... Like I said before, JR deserves a good bit of the blame so I agree.

Its so funny that so many people get pissy with Fox and Hurney for letting him walk yet really it's Peppers' fault for demanding so much damn money in which he knows we cannot afford. Last year when we tagged him, we had little room to even sign minor free agents and so with Peppers not re-signing with the Panthers, it will save us a ton of money.

Furthermore, will letting Pep walk hurt us? Definitely but would we survive? Yes. People, you're not understanding that we do have other talented DEs on our roster other then just Pepper. Granted that they may not be as great as Pep but Meeks has made them into solid players (i.e. Johnson, Brown, Brayton.)

So chill, it's not the end of the world
