I'd be willing to bet Adam Schefter's "unnamed source" is Carl Carey.

If so, then pretty much all of this is coming from Carey, which essentially makes it meaningless.

Things would go so much more smoothly if Peppers had a real agent, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

He can't go to the Cowgirls as it stands.

And as far as the Pats making great moves all the time, the Seymour trade bit them this year. Their pass rush was anemic because they let so many good players go, and that's what killed them in the playoffs.

Personally, I'd like to see Pep stay, but he may have worn out his welcome. I think tagging him was the right call as without him Meeks' D wouldn't have been near as good. If it weren't for the baffling decision to start Jake well past the point of reason, his play very well would have been what put us in the playoffs.

We'll see soon enough. If he goes, I hope we pick someone up in FA.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday night there was "mounting evidence" Peppers wouldn't return to Carolina, citing an NFL source who claimed owner Jerry Richardson had told people in the league the team would not try to keep their star defensive end.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said tonight through team spokesman Charlie Dayton that no decision has been made yet regarding the future of Julius Peppers with the team.

Peppers' agent, Carl Carey, said earlier in the evening that he hasn't heard from team officials since the season ended and that he concluded the team had "moved on" and would let Peppers become an unrestricted free agent.

According to Dayton, Hurney didn't elaborate other than to say nothing was final.

Carl's words are strictly posturing threats trying to get every cent he can... Pep will sign on our terms or either get the tag again... there is nothing else for the Panthers to discuss and Carl is desperate to make it look like they have some sort of other options..

Pep isn't going anywhere... get over it (you all and Carl!)

With recent news & rumors we been hearing lately, I don't think I can see Pep being around here next year. I pray you're right though, but right now it doesn't look good.

So let's assume Peppers does walk without complaint from the Panthers. When was the last time a player of Peppers caliber walked away from a team seemingly still in their prime?

Eh, it's really not a big deal. Everyone is only so attached to Pep right now because he played well in the last few games of the year. He was still invisible half the season, and he will continue to be if he returns. It won't be a huge loss for us and, in the long run, will probably be better if we let him walk. With what we would pay him, we can sign 4 or 5 quality free agents, and I trust Brayton, Johnson and Brown to do some good work this year. It's been good, Pep.

im just being stupid. anyway. I keep hearing that Hurney hasn't made a decision. at this point its all just speculation. in the end if we let pep walk, id be so pissed. We HAVe to get some kind of compensation for the guy.

Schefty has been off on all Panthers info this year..first the Cowher thing, now this...need to see it to believe it...I don't think they will really decide what to do until the franchise tag needs to be put on him..

samuel l jackson might have been right this year but i honestly think you might be wrong this one. hope i'm the one thats wrong
