My thinking is this: Everyone keeps saying this should be an uncapped year. Has it been officially announced yet? I really don't know. If it has not been made clear yet, I assume the Panthers FO is waiting on this. If its uncapped I really wouldn't be surprised if they try the franchise tag again. I have to believe they aren't going to let him walk unless they have some other big-name free agent in mind. I know Fox and Hurney are getting a lot of bad press, but they are intelligent men and I have to believe they aren't going to just let this one go.

Also the Panthers are in a rock and a hard place on this one. Everyone who has half a brain knows Peppers is unstoppable when he wants to be.... he is also terrible when he wants to be. If the Panthers do offer him a long-term deal I bet he half-assess it for the rest of his career. If they trade him or let him walk, he will be somewhat motivated. Either way we are up the creek.

I say even if they Panthers do plan to just let him walk, they should tag him first........ then see what he does. If I am not mistaken they can then always remove the tag if they want.

I am not to sure about that. I would think the Panthers would be able to trade him somewhere for something. Who knows for what, but there would be a franchise out there will to trade for him for a year.

Maybe the Panthers are letting Peppers dangle out there so they can see who shows interest in preparation for possible tag-and-trade talks?

It would really shock me if they just let him walk away after all the trouble and expense we've gone through to hang onto him up to this point... I'd really be scratching my head at that.

I would think tagging him is a no-lose for us, there's no cap so it doesn't hinder our ability to go after/keep other guys and if we can't work out a trade we rent him for one more year and then let him walk away.
